is the dollar amount shown under yahoo!'s realty foreclosure section represent the actual cost of the house or just 10% of the expected sales price? i found a foreclosed property for $19,100 but it doesn't seem possible that that could be the actual sales price.

There are some other stipulations with the purchase any advice would be helpful. "Property sold "as is". Purchaser responsible for search, survey, and transfer tax." This is a double unit house in a decent area. I am interested in fixing it up and living in one unit renting the other.

Obvisouly the answer to that is yes, but I'm wondering if there are any agencies that will survey land so that the buyer can get a really good idea of how valuable of an investment a piece of land or property would be without having to visit. I know I could get a house appraised but is there anyway to do it without the sellers knowledge? Also what if I'm interested in a plot of land. How can I get the most accurate non-biased information? I'm interested in purchasing some land in Hawaii and it would be more cost effective to just pay someone a couple hundred dollars to review several lots then for me to fly out there.
Any Thoughs?

Quick question, I'd like to move into a rent house, the guy that owns the house is asking for the deposit to hold it, which I thought was no big deal, but he's also asking for the first months rent too on top of that and I haven't lived in the house yet for a month for him to warrant charging me a months rent up front. Is it normal to pay the first months rent plus deposit even if you haven't lived in the house a month yet?

I've been in my Troy, Michigan home for a little over two years now. Paid $185,000 for it because anything more would, well, be suicide. I've put abour $4000 into it since then, in updates and maintenance. Is the starter home market okay out here? Should I even bother trying to get out of this house?

I'm renting a 4 bedroom 1 bath house. I have 3 roommates(2 guys and 1 girl who recently moved in). The girl's boyfriend is here every night and showers, cooks and does his laundry here. Everyone likes him but it kinda seems unfair for us renters. Would it be out of line to ask him to pay his share of the bills?

We are thinking of selling our home, my husband isn't home right now, and I am horrible at math. I was just looking over the contract and it says the company gets 7%. Is that pretty good? This is our first home so we are new at this.

Hey! I have a year and a half until I obtain my degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management. I know it's awful to admit but after I graduate University I want to be very rich! I heard that buying houses and then renting them out to students is an excellent way to earn cash (while working at your career) I was wondering if anyone did this and had some advice. What are other ways I can earn a lot of money on the side?

My husbands neice ownes the home we live in. We have been here since Katrina. His niece was behind on her house note and had already moved into another house w/ her mother. The house was going to be repossed. My husband and I caught up all the behind notes taxes etc. On the home and esentually took over the note. We pay close to 1400 a month. The entire amount goes straight to the morgage company. My husband cut his thumb off in september and this month "dec" we werent able to pay the note. FEMA is willing to help us get caught up. But His neice doesnt want us to ask FEMA for help because she said it will cause her to have to claim the Morgage as INCOME. If all the money is going to the Morgage company is this income? And if it is how much would this effect her income taxes?
