My company offers a 401K that I contribute too. I contribute 8% and my company gives me 12% (yes its true. 5% match, plus 7% automatic). My wife does not have a 401K at her job so we opened a traditional IRA.........Is there a "goal" percentage of income that we should be setting aside, or is it just however much we can afford? Our ages are 31 and 26 if that helps any.

I'm currently with 5/3, and I want to cancel and start an account at Bank of America. Would I have to pay a fee to cancel? I have the "Totally Free" Account; pretty much the basic plan.

I was just going through my bank account statements, and I paid over $1,300 in fees in the last 6 months. I get charged $15/month for just having my account, plus $6/month for online bill pay. Then, there was that time when I got trapped in Kansas during a Colorado blizzard, and I overdrafted my account (that gave me $500 in overdraft fees alone).

What's your banking horror story? Feel free to rant.

I don't need any special (or expensive) features, I just need a free checking account, maybe with internet accessiblity. I'm currently at 5/3, but I'm really not satisfied with the customer service, among other things. What would you recommend?

Me and my boyfriend have been living with my parents for 4 months. My parents let him move in to help him out (he just graduated college and started working) so he can save alot of his money and buy a place of his own. Well, we want to get a place but the horrible thing is we havent saved ANY money (maybe like $200?), and we dont even know where his paycheck goes, we dont go out all the time or buy really expensive things. Im in school full time, and he works full time. We need to make a budget, because its frustrating that after all this time there has been hardley no money saved, so how do make a good budget that allows for maximum savings? Thanks!

so, I'm with Bank of America. The overdraw fee is $35, no matter how small the amount.
Are there any banks that have a smaller fee?

You are helping your friend to plan retirement. She thinks that she needs 80,000 a year starting from her 66th birthday. Now she just celebrated her 35th birthday. She plans to make an contribution to her retirement account every year starting from her 36th birthday and she plans to make the same contribution till she is 65 (altogether 30 contributions). If the retirement account earns 9% per year, what does her annual contribution need to be?

I took out a payday loan and I do need to repay it. However, I don't think this company is using legal debt collection practices. I have asked them for the documents regarding the loan, license number, company name, physical address, etc....I get nothing in response but rude and snotty emails. I have now asked them to stop emailing me at work. What should I do next? I am not arguing paying the loan, but I want to see the documents so I know what the fees were.
