Whatever paycheck amount it is, save at least $20 per month. don't use it at all. Put the $20 in a savings account and watch that $20 grow. open another savings account if you have to like InG direct. It links directly to your checking account (whenever you need the funds). So try to say to yourself this mantra"I have no money in the bank". That way you won't be tempted to use your savings at all. Good luck.

I suggest you read and use a budget.
Read: The Total Money Makeover by Ramsey and do his budgeting. You will find where you are "wasting" money and put money aside in an emergency fund. You also need to get out of debt (if you are in debt) and then don't go in debt again (besides for a house). The only way you will know how much money you can save is if you write out where your money will go each month.
And never borrow from pay day loan companies. They are legalized loan sharks.
Good luck!

If you are borrowing at a payday loan, the trick is to pay it down and borrow less each month. For instance, if you have $900 borrowed, borrow $875 the next month, then $850 and so on. This will allow you to phase it out without defaulting or putting a real strain on your budget.
If you have credit cards, look for one that has zero interest for six months and READ THE FINE PRINT on late fees, etc. Transfer your balances and get rid of the old cards. Pay as much as you can in four months, then look for another credit card with 0% interest for 6 months and do it again. You'll have to keep looking for new cards and you'll have to be sure you don't make late payments, but you can phase them out this way.
Credit card companies will hate you, by the way.
Every payday, try to stick $20 to $50 in your Bible or another safe place. Don't touch it unless the choice is use the credit card or use it. This is NOT money to go to the movies. If you have to buy a bag of diapers just before payday, buy JUST the diapers and put the change back. Replace it on payday.
DO NOT use a check card for purchases under $10.00. Every time you use a check card you risk another overdraft charge. Carry $20.00 with you for incidental purchases.
Use duplicate checks so you always have a record of every check written. You can balance your checkbook actually on the checks. Have a banker show you how.

Here is a good link on ways to save money:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/67829/tips_on_saving_money.html
there are many ways to save money, the first question is, how much do you make which will allow you to save? the next question would be can you work more, in order to save more? or what exactly are you saving for? this can help determine your true needs and how much you need to save!

1. Pay yourself first. Have a portion of your pay automatically deposited. That way you don't see it, you don't miss it.
2. Have a budget and stick to it.
3. Related to #2, track what exactly you are spending your $$ on. Is it a want or a need? Wants are usually a waste of $$. You need someplace to live; you want a magazine. get it?
4. Don't shop for food when your hungry.
