I don't need any special (or expensive) features, I just need a free checking account, maybe with internet accessiblity. I'm currently at 5/3, but I'm really not satisfied with the customer service, among other things. What would you recommend?

I would recommend Bank of America. I do not hold any account there but the business I work for does. It really is great in customer service. Personally I think they are pretty good. Plus I like their idea of keep the change, where the resulting change of a debit card purchase (Example, when you pay 1.59 on an item, the rest to the next dollar, forty one cents) are changed to yuor savings account. Something that could help many americans to save money.

Where do you live? If you're in Canada, I would recommend PC Financial. They have kiosks in the Loblaws and you can use any CIBC bank machine for free. The PC accounts are free. No monthly fees, to interact fees, nothing. Its awesome. The only thing is that you can only do online banking or through a machine. But personally, I've never had a problem with that.

If you've got Bank of America where you live, you should give it a try. They have free checking, and online services. My favorite feature is that you can withdraw $10 from the ATM, everywhere else, it's $20.

they are FDIC insured so except you have exceeded the limitations of coverage i does not problem approximately it. they have an coverage calculator which you are able to use to double examine on it the hyperlink is indexed under. you have extra suitable than $one hundred,000 in deposits in a economic organisation and nevertheless be insured. as an occasion ira's are FDIC insured as much as $250,000. Say in case you had an a cd for in basic terms a $one hundred,000 and in basic terms your call replaced into on it. you may in basic terms have a 100k of FDIC coverage on it. yet once you had 6 beneficiaries on it you have that cd be $600k and nevertheless have it insured. it quite relies upon on how those debts are titled. Oh and as some distance because of the fact the guy asserting wamu can no longer fail... guess returned.. To be completely undemanding i might heavily look at going with an area economic organisation. countless those banks that are having those themes have been given in touch with those very own loan subsidized securities and subprime lending and now are having themes with them. countless community banks in no way have been given in touch with the completed risky subprime/very own loan backs so as that they are alot extra stable than those insititutions that theory they have been too huge to fail..

Where do you live? On the East Coast, I'd recommend PNC. And I'd stay away from M&T, which is the worst, most expensive bank ever. I had nothing but bad experiences with them.

Washington Mutual if you want free checking. I don't use them personally, but tons of my friends do and they are pretty satisfied with the service there.
