I am 24 years old and have had my money in a CD for the past 2 years - accruing interest.
I've heard that someone my age shouldn't have their money in a CD. I don't know why.
What is the best way to be accruing the most money for someone my age?
I don't need much access to the money because it is purely my savings right now. I am not using the money at this moment.

I have both a Traditional IRA and a Roth IRA. Each IRA has a maximum annual contribution of $4000. Is this maximum for each type or IRA individually, or is it a total for all IRAs?

If it is per type, then I could contribute $4000 to my Roth, and $4000 to my Traditional in the same year.

If it is total, I could contribute $4000 split between the two.

My daughter is getting married this summer. She's in her early twenties. One of the ideas my wife and I are considering as a wedding gift is to start an small investment for her. It's not the only gift I'd give, we're likely going to pay for her honeymoon, give a cash gift etc... But I'd like for her to have a start off investment for her new family too. I sure wish someone would have at least sat me down and explained the benefits of investing early in life to me.

So what's the best investment? Start a 401K, open an on-line stock trading account, buy into a mutual fund or maybe just open and fund a standard saving account with some place like HSBC (I think there paying about 5.00% right now.)

I'm open to any and all ideas.

I have a money market savings account with Capital One. In my checking account I have more money than I need RIGHT NOW due to my tax refund, however, in a few months I will need that money later on as my budget starts to even out. Should I take the excess money I have now in my checking, move it to my savings, allow it collect interest NOW, and then pull out what I need later on? Or just leave the excess in my checking and just leave my savings intact?

OK….I want to buy this CD…..It costs $21.99 plus taxes. Grand total is $24.85. I can pay outright, or lease over the next five years….for 66 cents a month. Which would be the better option.
