I have a $3,800 student load with 7% interest rate currently. Is this thinking correct: I get a 0% interest for a year credit card and put the 3800 on that (I'm sure I can pay that off in a year) and then not worry about the 7% interest on the student loan anymore. Is this too good to be true??

Thanks.

Time makes a big difference in saving money.

How much do you sock away a month? Do you use a bank or someplace else?

My wife and me are both disabled and get disability payments from the government in the Netherlands. Our problems are autism and adhd. With our pension, starting at age 25 and 30 we save 160 dollar/month we put in a mutual fund. We have no debt.
When we are 65 we get the same amount adjusted to inflation as we live of now. We are now 10 years later with at the moment around 17000 dollars in mutual fund. We both have the best health insurance the institutions offer. Never had to pay for medical cost and most things are covered in the future.
We are not a case by ourselves know some other people in such a situation in the Netherlands. Thanks for your response!

I am currently putting 15% into my 401k plan but I've read recently that it could be over kill and that you really don't need a "millon dollars" to retire....and I know it depends on what kind of life style you want to live too but I guess my question is should back down my 401k percentage (roughly to 8 or 10%) and invest somewhere else? 401k is currently my only "retirement" savings.
I know people are going to respond and say do what you can afford (which thats a no brainer) but I hope that you get the gist of the question.

I will probably need to replace my car soon, but I don't know that I want a traditional car loan because it would require having more insurance, and thus be rather expensive for me. (It'd be about double for me, as I don't have a spotless driving record). I was wondering if instead I could get a personal loan from the bank, say in the neighborhood of $3-5K and use that for a car thus saving me a bunch of money by not needing collision coverage if I could pay for the car in cash.

Now the questions ... is this possible, or is there usually some stipulation that you can't use a personal loan for a car? What sort of collateral do you usually need for a personal loan? If you have good credit, can you get one w/out collateral? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If someone wants to send money or prepay a plane ticket, how can they do it without me giving them my real name? (Example, Ikobo uses your email address but gives the sender your real name.)

I've noticed a lot of questions that go something "Do I Have Pay This Debt If ..." We all know borrowing money and not paying it back is wrong. Why do certain people think it's OK to cheat someone when that someone is a large firm? Judging by the large number of posts there seems to be a lot people who think this way. If you're one of these people, please post an answer. I would love to hear your rational.

Did any one REALLY think that all of the people who were approved for a non-secured mortgage were going to pay their bills? I, personally, am amazed to hear that only 20% of those loans have defaulted.

I have been claiming back bank charges for five of my friends (voluntarily, just because I have more time than them). Two of them have got their money back (Halifax & Abbey) and three of them are ongoing (Lloyds TSB).

The problem I have is with the interest which has been charged for unauthorised overdrafts. One of my friends has an agreed overdraft, however, she has sometimes gone over that agreed limit, sometimes her fault and sometimes due to applied charges.

My question is, how can I work out the difference between the interest charged which is legal and that which is not.

I would be grateful for any help anyone can give me.
