My credit score is poor at 550 level. I don't have any credit cards now, but how can I raise my score??
I have student loans on my credit report, but payments are deferred till I finished college. I have some collections items on my credit report, and was wondering if paying them now will improve my credit score.
Frustrated SSN bearer.

I see these places on TV that advertise to get your credit report for free but every one I have been to once I have filled out all of the info suddenly they are asking for a credit card # to pay for it. I want to be able to check it at least once a year but is there a free place on line to do this?

Are ther any credit card companies that entice new customers by letting them take all their reward points from their old card with them when they switch to a new card?

My current credit card APR is 12%. I want to get a card with a lower rate, but dont want to lose all the reward points I have accrued.

when i called the customer service reps, they said that online payment was available on the account but when i try to log on using the info i have, i get a screen that says "service not available" . Anyone ever have that problem? Is it because it's such a new account (activated 1 day ago). There isnt any payment due yet but I like being on top on what i owe so i can see fees, etc at all times! I know if you pay by phone, it costs like $10!!! Are they screwing with me so i would have to pay late or pay $10 each time I pay my bill??? Any thoughts?

No excuses, I probably have the worst credit history ever. Credit company has summoned me to court for past due bill. 5 to 6 yrs old. Court date not until Feb '07. Is there any way I can take care of this without involving my now husband????

I was not married to him when the debt(s) occured......does that make a difference??

I have a consolidated student loan that's about 12,600 dollars. I also have credit card debts totalling around 9500. I have considered getting a loan from Primerica in December (that's when they will have a loan for people like me that don't own a home). I have also considered opening another credit account and moving all debts from other credit cards to it. My third option is getting a loan from a bank. I'm not sure what to do, since my friends don't seem to like Primerica all that much and I don't know much about bank loans or balance transfer on credit cards. My debt is not really that high, just over 21,000 total. However, I am having trouble paying bills, credit card minimums and part of my student loan minumum payment each month (I never have enough to pay the minimum all at once, so I'm behind). What is the best way for me to lower my debt without being severely poor each month?

I was first contacted by a debt collector by mail in late March to which I responded to on April 9th, disputing the debt and asking for verification. I did not send this certified mail because I did not know better. I did not hear anything back from the debt collector and assumed it was closed. However, I received another letter from a different collection agency in mid July to which I responded in the same fashion since it seemed to work before but again I did not send the letter through certified mail. I did however respond to them though within the 30 days of receiving their letter. I did not hear anything back and assumed it was closed. When I checked my credit score today and found out it dropped significantly I obtained a copy of my credit report and on there it has my account with the debt collector that contacted me in July as 120 days delinquent. Can I still dispute this debt or since I did not send the letter through certified mail am I out of luck? Thanks for any help

i heard that medical bills could not be included and doesnt affect your credit rating. Is that true???? I pay my credit cards, mortgage and car on time every month, but I have alot of medical bills and I pay a little each month on all the medical bil. they still send it to collections because I dont pay the full amounts and I owe alot. Is that going to mess up credit rating? Is there anythign that I can do to fix this ??? Please help.
