Each of my creditors want me to play them indivually and some say consolidation will take 30 odd years but I don't know if I can trust them or consolation, so I seriously want to know who's the best person/or company to get rid of debt.

I've applied at places like Kohl's, Sears, local grocery store, and online. They all say I have no credit. I even got my credit report from one of them and they said I don't have bad credit, just no credit. I've looked into secured cards, but they all want a high annual fees. I've paid my rent on time for the last 3 years. It should count for something shouldn't it? Thanks for any ideas.

When you order something online or over the phone, vendors often ask whether it is a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, etc. This information is encoded in the card number itself and there is no need to ask for it (especially in the case of M/C vs. Visa). Why do they ask for it anyway? Is it just to double-check that you are using an accepted credit card (which they'd find out soon enough anyway)? Is it a mindless procedure or is there a solid reason for it?

When I got behind on my property taxes, my mortgage company paid the balance and is now doubling my house payment over the next 12 months. Needless to say, I can't pay a double payment. I was never late on my payments prior to now. Any recourse?

I have $31,000 in credit card debt. I have five cards, but the two with the highest balances are 11k @ 29% and 17k @ 25 and 3k @29 %. I have $8000 to pay twoards my cards, but I don't know which card to pay off or to pay down. Does anyone know how to either consolidate all my cards into one loan at a certain rate, without claiming bankrupcy? What would be the best way to go?
