How did your employer react, what deal did you have to strike if any, how do your co-workers feel, how practical is it in truth?
Like to hear your (short) stories, especially office-based scenarios. Thanks in advance, Mark

I perceive office politicers often forge ahead of the truly skilled, professional, and knowledgeable employee. This is happening to my husband. He is BRILLIANT. The Politiker is a jug-head. My husband keeps his head low, mouth shut, and does his job, and does it well. He is just the guy that everyone likes, but he does not bring gifts to the boss; he does not BS around him - he gets the job done! He is not political, doesn't have an agenda; and believes in always doing more than expected. Unfortunately, he has experienced promotion passes over past 5 yrs, and he is terribly upset. I know the person who forged ahead of him, and this guy is a freaking politicer (or is it politiker?) from hell. This guy has a BA in English from a crazy po-dunk school in Alabama (no offense folks from that area, but....???); my husband has BS and Masters from top 10 University. Other great things, but can somene explain why politics always wins over quality?

I was out of work for 6 mo's and was offered a job finally but the pay was a lot less than I had made before...running out of options, I took the job (been there 3 wks now) & found that although I make like exactly enough to only pay my bills, I love the company! I get a lot of paid time off (apprx 3 wks/yr not incl. holidays) great benefits, relaxed, flexible atmosphere & exciting social "outside-of-work" activities - but I still am completely broke, barely able to make it by. 2 days ago I was offered a position with a company I had previously interviewed with and it pays more than enough to make it by to where I wouldn't be stressing about bills and necessities....but I know the atmosphere would be totally different and not as social or relaxed or enjoyable - not that it would be bad as I can't say for sure since I haven't worked there yet but I am scared to take it because I really love where I'm at...I have one week to decide and I am at a total loss - can anyone give me advice

A company I worked for in 1997/8(over 8 years agos) is refusing to give the company I currently work for a reference due to the fact that all record from this period have been archive and they are not willing to verify that I actually worked for them.

The other problem is that all the staff that I worked with have also left the company so there is no one who even remembers me working there.

The company I'm currently working for requires a 10 years background check and is threatening to suspend me if I cannot provide the information. Is there anything I can do to avoid suspension?
