My condo association recently increased our dues - I am personally affected by an additional $40 a month for 2008! I will be paying $382 for a 2 bed/1 bath condo in Fremont, CA with a 'average' community upkeep for a 20 year old property. High energy costs, mortgage rate issues, and a need for increased reserve have been sited as reasons. Is this normal? What can I do to educate myself more? Do I have any options? What are my rights?

I teach college English. I was offered a part-time position doing acadmic advising at night. Honestly, I got the job because my sister works in the same place.

I'm a month and a half in, and I've yet to be trained. I feel completely overwhelmed, and I'm hating the night hours. I feel like this night job is an inconvenience to my teaching.

I feel like a jerk because it is a good job, but I think I realize that this is not something I want to do. But I'm afraid of making my sister look bad or seeming ungrateful.

I know I shouldn't have gotten into the job because of the whole family/work relationship, but I didn't listen to that little voice. Now, I'm kicking myself.

I've verbally committed through May of next year. Should I stay that long and just hate it? Or should I leave now?

I've told my sister that I'm hating it. (She's also supposed to be my trainer and immediate supervisor. She's not happy with how I feel about it, but she understands.) What should I do?

I recently applied for my first credit card and got approved, and have an online account. However, I am a bit confused. My current balance stands at about $50, but my statement balance is at $0. My guess is that the statement balance is the amount I am actually billed, whereas the current balance is simply how much I've used during the current billing cycle? What further confuses me is that the due date is today, but when I try to pay, I can't. I selected "pay balance in full," but it didn't work because it was at $0. Then I tried "pay minimum balance," and that didn't work either because that was also at $0. So, do I owe nothing as of now, and should I wait until a statement balance shows up? Help with this would be great. Thank you.

at the start, we had a financial agreement that we would pay 1/2 of everything but he ended up not paying any of the rent - I paid each month - and I would end up paying the utilities before they got shut off!!! Now I want to try and recoup my $$. Can I sue or even put him through Court nightmare? Please advise. The total tally in rent alone is 1/2 of 5000! We do not have it in writing and the lease is in his name but the landlord is my friend who knew of the arrangment.

My mom got a card with my name on one of her accounts a while back, for me to use for emergencies, and such. I am the only other card holder, and the account was in her name. She just passed away. She is survived by her husband.

I have about $6000 on the card now that I plan to pay in full within the next month. (When I get the life insurance settlement)

However, I just used the card to make a large purchase, (because I figured, I'm paying the whole thing off in
I don't know exactly what I should tell them. If I should just say, that I went ahead and used it, after she passed, because I knew I was going to pay it off ----- or if I should call them back and act like I just found out she passed (it was in the past 2 weeks) and that I didn't know that at the time I used the card.

After my divorce from my daughters mother she, the mother, was appointed the guardian. Big surprise! That was when my daughter was 7. When she started college the court in Alabama had reserved the right to review the case again and did so. They changed the child support to "Post Minority College Educational Expenses". My daughter files her own income tax and her mother is on disability so she receives a Pell Grant. My tax advisor says I can't claim my payments for college expenses because I don't claim her on my tax return but that she, my daughter, could use my expenses on her return as a deduction. Is this all correct? Is there no way I can get a deduction for these educational expenses without loosing the Pell Grant.

my cell phone asking for someone else. I just got off the phone in a yelling match with thhis idiot on the other line, she called and asked for someone and I politely told her not once but twice my name and that this was not the correct number for the person she was asking for, I told her twice that she had the wrong number, so instead of saying okay she rudely replies look we can do this the easy way and you can give me the number or I'll keep calling, so I lost it and let her have it, what can I do to stop them from calling me when I have told this woman that they have the wrong number?

My husband and I want to buy a duplex and live in one side, rent the other. The one we are interested in has both units rented out right now. I am not sure when the leases expire and what the terms are yet. My question is, can I legally empty one side so that we can move in? I have heard that since the leases were signed with the old landlord, not me, that we could choose to sign a new lease or we could choose not to. But then I heard that their lease will still be good and I need a "good" reason to ask to them to leave. Anybody know any more info?? Thanks!!

I have a medical bill from February 2000 that I considered at the time, and still consider, to be illegitimate. I didn't pay it.

In 2004 it was sold to a collection agency.

No negative mark was ever made on my credit report from the medical facility, and now that seven years have passed and they no longer claim the debt, I presume no negative mark can be made by them.

But what about the collection agency? Does the fact that they purchased the account in 2004 post-date the debt? Or does the original statute of limitations still apply?

I had professional do my taxes for the past 4 years and they amortized points on schedule A. However, I want to do my own taxes this year and have no idea how they figured out the amortization. I read somewhere that you can amortize all the points on the year that you sell. But, since I started amortize it yearly, do I have to continue to amortize yearly, or can I wait to amortize the remaining balance when I sell?

I've been working at my first retail job for the past 3 weeks, and I already dread going. I like my coworkers and boss fine, but I find the actual job boring. Selling to customers is very hard and we are expected to sell at least $250 of merchandise in an hour. This is very hard, seeing as most customers come just to browse. I hate this job, and have no passion for it. I've worked as a grocery store cashier and babysat, and I have to say I enjoyed those jobs much more. I don't want to create bad feelings, but I really want to quit. I'm a seasonal employee, a highschool student, need a steady income and I need job experience. I'd like to work at something I have a passion for, like art or writing. What can I do? How can I resign with no hard feelings after just starting? Is there an excuse I can use? I know this sounds very immature, but I'd rather be doing the things I really enjoy while I'm young, not working at a frustrating job. Please help! Thanks
-Emma
