This has taken twice as long and cost 3 times as much as I had budgeted. Now I've invested all of my savings. After many visits from city inspectors I've finally rented 3 of the 4 units.
I have to concentrate my "real" job for a while. So, I want to wait till the spring to re-do the last unit. I've shut off the electricity and water to the 4th unit. There is still some water in the pipes under the sink and comode. Do I have to keep the place heated? If so to what temperature? What else should I do to protect my investment while rebuilding my savings account?

People say they are and then don't follow through. How do you find the serious ones that aren't just curious? Is it really because of the fear of scams or is it that they think they aren't disciplined enough?

I am trying to sell my home and I have 2 offers. I had an offer before but the bank is taking 90 days to approve. Now they are talking foreclosure next month. It's like they want to foreclose on my home. Why are they doing this? My home is up on a short-sell.

In which of these situations (all of which I have been in over the last 2 months) is mileage tax-deductible?

1. Daily commute to the church where I work 25 hours per week but am considered an independent contractor (I use their equipment but pay my own social security).

2. I also am a sole proprietor of a website design and hosting company which I started 18 months ago. When I meet with a client at a coffee shop, for example, is travel to and from the coffee shop deductible?

3. For extra income, I also do websites (paid per site) for a medical management company. Once per week I go to their office to drop off completed site folders, a CD with all sites on it, and pick up new site instructions. I am an independent contractor but also considered "staff." However, all work is at my location (not theirs) using my equipment and on my schedule. Can I claim mileage for this?

4. If I use my personal vehicle to run errands for the church (see question 1) are those errands deductible?

I'm interviewing for a position next week that I am excited about...the duties are exactly what I want to be doing and the compensation is very fair. The only problem is that several of my former coworkers also used to work with the woman who would be my immediate supervisor and have said she is very difficult to work with. I haven't had a chance to speak with them more in detail, but even when I was working with them I would constantly hear about this woman and how crazy she was. I'm in the position right now where I don't like my job, but I don't want to move into another job where I won't like my boss for the sake of changing jobs for better money.

There is also a potential opportunity with a former boss who I adored and I am very interested in that position too...so it's not like I would be out of options. Any suggestions?

Yesterday I asked - I started a corporation this year and was unable to really pay myself. If I have no income can I expect to get anything back if I have appox. 30K in deductions. I am talking about personal taxes not corporate. Can I expect to get anything back on my personal taxes. Regardless of my income I still had the same expenses with help from family and I still have the same deductions.

I paid $250 to adopt a dog. This included the care that he received to that point, incurred by the shelter (vet care, shots, food, neutering). I was told that this was considered a donation. Since the shelter would be a non-profit organization, can this "donation" be considered tax deductible?

I live in Mississippi and have made the mistake of giving 30 days verbal notice to my apartment manager that I was moving out, rather than 30 days written notice(per the lease, apparently). After she informed me yesterday that my verbal notice to her was not proper and that I needed to give her written notice ASAP (which I did), she also informed me that she would have to charge me pro-rated rent through Jan.12 (since my official written notice was dated Dec. 12) for the amount of $273 (for Jan 1-12, as I've already paid Dec. rent).

Obviously, I screwed up and should have read the lease closer and given the written notice to her and I wouldn't be in this mess. She isn't understanding of my mistake and is still wants the full $273. My deposit on my apt. was for $200. So, I'm thinking that I should just get my stuff out to my new place and just tell her to keep the security deposit and that I don't intend to pay the extra $73.

My husband and I are trying to refinance our home mortgage with some other credit cards. We were approved by a bank and then they saw our tax returns that show my income after deductions for my in home daycare. Debt to income was too high and loan was not finished. Loan officer said I need to give myself a W2 for earnings and then I would be approved. So, how is that done and does it affect our taxes in the end? Also, is it possible to get W2's made for previous tax years?

I asked this question once already, but I guess I didn't give enough info, so I am going to try this again. Bare with me because I honestly don't know anything about this, that is why I'm trying to get info on here. I am currently looking at buying a house that is heated with a boiler furnace. There are base board vents through out the house, and multiple thermostats to control the heating in the different "zones" of the house. I'm not sure if this also controls the hot water, or if there is a seperate hot water heater. My understanding is that there are lines that run along the base boards, hot water runs through them and some how heats the house?!?! Like I said, I really don't know, and I am just trying to get a better understanding of this system. ANY info on them would be much appriciated, such as cost to replace them, repair them, or service them. Common problems to watch out for, how they opperate, and if it would be better than a regular furnace.
