I did an interview last thursday for a company. They said that they would let me know the decision by this week. I sent them a follow up letter on monday but I am not getting response yet. Do you think the company is still making decision? or is it the holiday season so they are not hiring? or when is the best time for me to actually call them?

I am a NJ resident, going to school in NYC (and living here during the school year) and also working here in NYC. I'm making $12/hour and my tax has been around 23% out of some paychecks!

What's going on??? Am I getting taxed extra because I told my employer my address as my NJ address? Which state tax form should I be filling out? Should I be getting most of this money back?

Just for reference, here are some of my year to date tax numbers. Total earnings has been $6790

SO SEC TAX 421.01
MEDICARE TAX 98.46
FED INC TAX 694.02
PRI-STATE TAX 162.89
SDI/UC TAX 13.20

TOTAL TAXES 1,389.58
around 20% of my total earnings...

Thanks guys!

If I was a rep and only bought these products for myself with no intent to sell to customers, would I still have to report to the IRS? It's technically not income if I'm not selling it, especially at the marked up price.

I know I can report losses for three years, but that's not what I'm talking about.

If I gave my landlord a notice dated yesterday (Dec. 12th), do I count Dec. 12th as day 1 of my notice or does day 1 of my notice officially start on Dec. 13th? I have to give her 30 days notice and I'm trying to mathematically figure when it actually starts. Thanks a bunch!

Does the amount of Board Members on a company have to evenly match the % of the company they represent?

Please read carefully,
On the board of a private or public company, is it required that the number of board members be evenly split to represent the different percentages of the company owned by multiple people?

Example: The VC owns 25%, 25% is publicly traded, and the CEO owns 50%. Then 4 board members are needed, 1 for the VC, 1 for the public, and 2 to represent the CEO's 50% holding?

OR

Can each member on the board represent a different percentage of the company? Example: 3 board members needed; 1 for the VC @ 25% voting power, 1 for the public @ 25% voting power, and 1 for the CEO @ 50% voting power?

References would be really helpful.

I heard an interesting statistic that Americans spent more money than they made in 2005 and that is the first time it has happened since the great depression. Creditors are irresponsibly lending more and more money to less qualified people and charging them higher rates, more penalties. The result of all these people buying things that they cannot afford is driving prices upward and creating a cruel and damaging cycle. Agree?

I know on a smaller scale people will purchase homes, then flip them. But isn't it true that the investors, that make the big money, don't even get involved in fixing them up?

I have always been very interested in health care, and I'm currently working as a hospital social worker in an inpatient unit.

There are two areas of health care that I'm passionately interested in. The first is medical ethics. For example, my hospital will sometimes have cases where we need to have team consultations where we discuss a complicated case from multiple perspectives (e.g. legal, medical, familial, etc.). I find these types of cases fascinating, but don't know if there's a good career match for this interest apart from law (which I don't want to pursue).

My second interest is working to make health care delivery more efficient. I am fascinated by the inefficiency of the current system in many areas (reimbursement, documentation, pricing structure, etc.). Once again, I'm not sure what type of job or training one would need to have to focus on these issues.
