I want to make a donation to the Good Will, and I am wondering how that gets deducted off my taxes. Like how do they calculate it? For example if I donate $100 worth of stuff. Does that mean I get $100 more back on my return? And who determines the value of what I donate. I think Good Will just estimates $15 a box, but I dont know. Please explain this to me in laymans terms. I want to donate as much stuff as I can so I can get a bigger return. I have my whole garage I want to give, and that is a bunch of stuff so you can see why I am concerned. The Govt takes like thousands out of my hubbies pay checks, and well they dont give much back either so I need help. Plus I would love to help a non profit organization :)

I have been a dedicated employee. A situation arose at work and I was suspended pending an internal investigation. I was told that I wasn't allowed to speak to any other employee and they were all informed that they were not allowed to speak to me. No communication, not even after work. They are assuming that I violated that rule and they terminated me. I was told that this was the specific reason I was being fired. Is that legal in the state of Texas? I think I have an EEOC case. From what I have read, I have a discrimination/disparate case. I think that my HR department agrees because they offered me a severence package of $3000 plus six weeks of paychecks if I signed an agreement not to take legal action. I told them I would signed if the terms were changed to $15,000 plus 12 weeks of pay and benefits. Does anyone know if I have a leg to stand on?

I have made several trades in my Roth IRA in the last few days. Is the buying and selling of the same stock in the same day considered one or two trades? I know it takes 4 trades in 5 consecitive business days to be marked a "pattern day trader". So what would really happen if my IRA was "marked", and since IRA's arn't eligible to be margin accounts, does it even matter? What are the consequences?

We just closed on our home. We bought the home for $116,505. The home was appraised at $165,000. It needs a new roof, gutters, garrage and a beam in the basement needs replacing. It could also use new carpet/flooring. How soon can we refinace and take out the equity? Would it be a good idea to take the equity right away for these repairs? None of the repairs have an imediate negative impact on the structural integrity of the home and could wait for a year or two for us to save for the repairs. Please help with some advice. 1st time home owners.

I currently only have a savings account. My roommate pays the bills and I just give him cash at the end of each month. However, I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling in January and will need a debit card (definitely not a credit card) to book my flights, etc.

However, it has come to my attention that I can only get a debit card by opening up a checking account! Can you please tell me why and how this works? And what should I do -- just transfer my money from my Savings into my Checking account? I can't figure out how the bank will even allow me to maintain a checking account when I won't be cashing any checks or writing any out... Please help how to go about operating my way through this checking account situation. Thank you.

I have a bank account and the branch is quite far off from where I live because I have moved. I am not happy with their services, so I sent them an email request to close the account. When there was no response I called the customer service, but they said they wouldn't take closure requests on phone. So I sent them a signed letter. It is more than 2 months now, they are sending me monthly statements and new product features and what-not, actually behaving as if I have not sent the closure request and they are also charging maintenance fees every month. The branch is too far from where I live, so I cannot actually go in person and make a request. What shall I do?

I have been looking for houses for me and my family and I've found many houses with 3beds and 2bath for about $1,400 a month. This is the right size and the amount is affordable but i found out that it is a foreclosure home. Since they are cheaper is it good to rent one? thanks in advance.
