I use a folder with dividers and whole punch the statements and insert them into their own section. Just wanted to know if there was a better way of organizing them.

How about you? Thanks!!

I keep a page with a list of the date due, due to, total due, amount paid. This way I know I'm not missing any. Then I keep all the bills together by month. I use the envelope from my phone bill because it's the right size. I write 12/07 on the top and keep them together.

I recovered a mistake on my taxes by doing this -- hundreds of dollars -- I was not getting my Homeowners exemption. If I couldn't prove my phone bill was at the residence, I wouldn't have gotten the money. I save them for 7 years, that's how long the big 3 accounting firms advise.

I like your idea of using a folder to organize the statements. I may just have to try that! It would work very well at tax time also - you'd just have to flip through them. Great idea!
One thing I do that works well for me is to record each bill's name, due date, and amount on a monthly calendar. As I pay each one, I put a red check mark next to it. That way, I can see at a glance what is paid, what is due, and how much money is going where.

At our house bill paying is a simple procedure. The bill comes to the house or a statement of the account arrives. We check our bill against the purchase or bills against the statement to insure correctness . Either right then or the following morning a check is written for the liability and placed in the mail. There are seldom errors so our method works for us.
