don't quit, let him fire you,and collect uneployment while going to school.employees are at the mercy of their bosses, esp. if it is a state that is an at will state.as far as the threats,go to hr and make a formal complaint.hostile work environment is against the law in any state.

Most employees in the US are employed as "At will" employees. You can exercise your right to not work 50 hours a week, but they don't need a reason to let you go, and as long as they don't violate at workplace standards like race/gender discrimination, then they won't have a legal issue.

If those hours are legal in your state then you have to be willing to work them if that's what they need. There are plenty of other people out there who would work those hours just to have a job.

Go over his head, like to the HR person (most of them have degrees) and will be more likely to understand your situation!!

depends if you are in a right to work state, if you are then they have the right to do that and in lamen terms they can do what they want and you have no say so in it.
