For bonus points - when was it that France decided to do this while England dug down and paid it off? (It was after some war...maybe Spanish Succession? Or Austrian?) I'm not trying to "quiz you", but I learned these and forgot them. xD
I need it for a big public forum debate tomorrow, so timeliness is appreciated. :D

Im REALLY struggling to find machine that will fit my needs and my budget. I whant somthing under $1000 (I think 4 this price I can get just used 1, which Im fine with) with largish LCD, 800spm and ideally with USB.
Im starting my buisness, so will need to embroid quite a few things at least in the beginning. So it should be cheap to repair and easy to use.
Oh, I 4gotten 2 mention last time I used sewing machine was 6 years ago!!! And never touched embroidery 1!

The easement states they have the right to 'inspect, maintain, remove, renew, repair and replace and substitute the same or any part thereof.' The neighbours want to upgrade their electricity and although we were in negotiations with them have sent an email from their lawyer stating that they have alternative ideas which will cost US 1000's us Dollars and if we don't pick one of the options they will arrive next week and commence digging up our yard. We are not trying to be awkward and as far as we were concerned we were negotiating with our neighbour and this has come out of the blue. Also they moved in over a year ago and they still haven't signed off on a road easement we spent $20,000 building for their property so we didn't have them driving infront of our house. We have spoken to their lawyer but he was rude and abusive and wouldn't listen to the fact I wanted to get OUR easement issue resolved before furthering decisions on theirs. Can we stop them digging up our yard ?

I am playing a stock market game for my economics class with $100,000 in pretend money. I really want to win and I am wondering about a new strategy I have come across. Is it a good idea to buy stocks about to undergo reverse stock splits? For example, I am thinking of buying JAVA because it is about to have a 1 for 4 reverse stock split. I read that that will make it go from $5 to about $20. If only the stock price increase is accounted for and not the share decrease (e.g. My shares will stay the same while the price increases), doesn't that seem like a logical thing to do? If so, do you know of any other stocks about to have reverse stock splits? Thanks!

Do we really need insurance?

Life insurance, why can't we just be cremated?
Who need a $100,000 worth of funeral?

Health insurance, why can't we just pay out of our pocket, health
insurance won't pay for our medical anyway.

House insurance, why can't the government help us out?

Car insurance, my mom paid $1,000 annually for 15 years...
and the old car got totaled and we only get $4,000.
That isn't fair.

I feel insurance companies rip us off.

100% of my investments are in a large spread of mutual funds
About 40% foreign/30% domestic/20% emerging/10% sector/industry specific.

I don't have any individual stocks and my experience is limited. I have one microcap (penny stock) that I am considering putting between $2-$3000 in.

I hope to be in for a longer term (not day trading).

If it did bottom out I would live, the gain is just too tempting.

Do you suggest staying away from microcaps all together or are they worth a most small percentage of your portfolio?

I am considering seeking legal action against a debt collection agency
called Westcott UK but i'd thought i'd see the opinion on the matter online
first and if you can help.

I myself have never been in debt with this company or the company they are acting on behalf - Provident.

My mother and father have. They do not live with me and have never
lived at my address. In fact I don't even see them. They have not
given my address either. But Westcott have searched Experian and found
that I obviously used to live with them at their old address and now
i'm at my own address and they can't find my parents so they are
sending letters to my address addressed to my parents. They call it a
family link!

Surely this is illegal?

My husband and I have told them on numerous occasions that they have
never lived here but they continue to send letters and now have got a
solicitor firm involved threatening to send balliffs around!

Any ideas?
