Over the years I have cut my credit cards from 5 down to 2, I have one mortgage and will get another next week when I complete. I pay all my bills on time . A new credit card company has come up with a holiday offer, which I want to take advantage of, and then close the account, latest feb 2008.
If I apply for this credit card what will my rating be like? does it go up and down everytime you apply for credit cards? mortgages??

I rent an apartment. I pay $650/month by contract, but the contract ran out last month (September) I already paid $650 for October. Now he is going to raise the rent to $750. When he writes a new contract, what will it say? Should October be in the contract, or will it start from November? If it starts from October, should it say $650 for October and $750 there on? Could he possibly try to charge me the extra $100 for October?

I was job surfing the other day and found a job I liked in upstate New York. Was all set to apply, and even found a nice, cheap house I was interested in ($140,000), but then asked the realtor what the annual property and school taxes were.

I was STUNNED when he wrote back that the yearly taxes were $32,000!!!

So, I would have a monthly mortgage payment of about $800, but a tax bill of about $2,666 a month on top of that!

Am I the only one that sees the absolute INSANITY of this situation? Jeebus! How do you New Yorkers NOT rise up and burn down all your local government offices and kill the Vampires that work in them?

My annual tax bill where I live now is about $1000 a year for a $250,000 house!

My husband and I got married a year ago and filed our income jointly this year. Before I got married I used to get back a hefty sum back from the IRS, because I do not declare any dependents. This year we had to send the IRS $5000 just because we got married. Anyway, time went by quickly, we haven't changed anything in the way we pay our taxes. On top of that, I got good bonuses this year and so did my husand. I am fearing that they are going to panalize us this year because we probably end up owing more. BTW, we do not really have a significant income on my husband's side because most of his income goes to his ex wife (Alimony). How do I check our accurate current situation? Can I do it myself without an accountant? I do not want to contant the IRS. I dont want to "wake the bear up" if I don't have to.
Financially, getting married doesn't make sense!!

One of my best friends lives in the outskirts and has been ordered to evacuate, but she is staying until the fire is a block away. She says the firemen will make their stand at Mission road. She has horses, and I just know she will try to get them out. I tried to call her last night until midnight, but I kept getting a clicking noise on the line, and then I would get the busy signal.
