Sometimes stores will charge me $0.25 or $0.50 for me to use my credit card. Some places do this only when my purchase is below a certain amount (under $5.00 and they charge you an additional $0.50), but some places do it for all credit card transactions.

What are the laws around this? I thought that it wasn't legal for businesses to charge me the transaction fee that they have to pay for accepting charge cards? I thought that they are required to build these charges into their prices, but that they couldn't just force me to pay them directly.

I've just moved in earlier this year in this 2bedroom apt in NJ. And now I want to move because this problem right here takes the cake. My landlord that lives downstairs went on vacation before rent was due. Now my bathroom for the second time, have a major hole in the sealing from a leak and everyday and night it leaks water. We can't use the toilet cause that's where the leak is. So we do number one in the tub and number two in a garbage bag or go downstairs and use his toilet. My husband did not pay him the rent because of this. I want to move, but he said we should wait it out. This house already had mice in it and bunch of mosquitos. The bathroom stinks and has little bugs flying around. We only really use it for the shower. I've videotaped everything. We don't have money to move, yes, but I want to use the two months that I had paid him when I had moved in. So now I asked, what you think I should do here? I also have children and we use our sheets & clothes on floor cause its wet

Does the IRS penalize or give you less deductions and exemptions when you file seperately from your spouse? Meaning file as married filing seperately instead of married filing jointly.

I just received an Notice of Adjustment for my 2006 State Tax Return. It is saying we owe $1700 from the refund we received. I used TurboTax when completing our return. Even though we live in one state, I tele-work from home for a company in another state and have taxes taken out in that state. When I completed TurboTax, there was a section asking about out of state income or gain and so I put my income from the other state in there. It also said do not include Personal Service Income. There was nothing on the Learn More About This Topic link for that particular phrase, so I included my out of state income there.

Before I call up Turbo Tax and spend $$ to talk to a tax advisor, am I culpable for this error or should it have been explained better by Turbo Tax? I'm sure they will be saying too bad/so sad and you need to cough up the money. Maybe they should be saying on their forms to not include any WAGES or anything shown on a W-2 instead of saying Personal Service Income!

In the early weeks of my pregnancy (February 2007), I do not have Health Insurance to cover it. I was using an Ob/Gyn that gives 6 installments pay monthly in total of $1300 for prenatal care. After I finished my payment, I got a job with full health insurance (Blue Cross) that covers 100% of my prenatal care/delivery.

The Ob/Gyn gave me a letter to sign saying that the "Prenatal care / Delivery" cost of $3200 will be covered by Health Insurance and I owe $0.00.

Is it fair that they put "Prenatal Care" covered by insurance while I already paid in full in the amount of $1300?

Is it possible, legally, to claim back prenatal care of $1300 that I already paid, since today I am still in prenatal period and covered by insurance?

In my contract I financed interest free for 4 months with payment due before wedding. Bride had sob story and I extended for two month. STILL no money two month later. I am now sending her a Consumer Loan Agreement with interest. I have never done this and can not figure what the payments plus interest will be. HELP!

The principle is $1318.07. The interest is 19.99% and there will be three payments starting Sept 30, Oct 15 and Oct 30.

Any sharp financial types out there able to help a photographer out?

I claim exemption from withholding for 2007, and I certify that I meet both of the following conditions for exemption:

Last year I had a right to a refund of all Federal income tax withheld because I had no tax liability and

This year I expect a refund of all Federal income tax witheld because I expect to have no tax liability.

If you meet both conditions, write "Exempt" here

My g-ma died in 1980...I was 5 yrs. old.

I always knew that I had to have gotten something cause my sister got stock from my g-ma and my sister isn't even a biological g-child. But $$ was never mentioned or given to me. I am certain... I have a amazing memory.

Here I am at age 33...today my dad hands me a box of historical documents of his and my g-ma's. First off it includes gramma's will. Secondly it includes a very detailed list of 16 varing ins. policies and annuities that she had and was current on. She was very money smart and I am 100% certain they were all current and in effect. I am listed as a bene. on 2 policies.

One was from Colonial Penn Ins. Co. + the other is Lincoln Nat. Ins. Co.
Both ins. co's say they find no such records..
What shall I do next?

I cannot ask my parents

Info I have...
G-ma's date of birth and date of death.
G-ma's soc. sec. #
policy #'s
addresses for the ins. co's
Her handwritten list of policies and list of bene's

My boyfriend and i are going to be engaged and married within the next two years and we plan on buying a house. First off, I cannot be on the house loan because of bankruptcy within the last two years. But he has good credit, he has a car loan paid off, and he has only worked at his job for about 90 days though. He has no debt and he can afford an 87000 home on his own effort. But what my questions are, first off, how likely is it that he can even get a home loan being hes only worked at his job for 90x, but has done the same kind of work in two jobs in the last 6 years. And two, i am going to be helping him pay for the house, and i make as much as he does, can he consider my income extra income to boost his affordability of a house?

ok, here is the scenerio: a person is in foreclosure and risk losing their home, you put them under a contract for ($1-$500) and say you will buy it from them- but you dont! You then find an investor or someone else willing to buy the house and you give them the house if you get a finders fee from them. The finders fee can be anywhere from 1k-20k. The catch is, since you have them under contract, you get first dibbs on the house- but you turn it over to someone else for a small fee.

This sounds like a scam and I would like some feedback from someone who has very good knowledge of Real Estate.

can an employer refuse to grant you a decrease in hours worked if you need the time outside of work? And can the employer refuse to give you less hours unless you prove that the decrease in hourse is needed? I am a new target employee at a target store that is opening in October, but we have been doing a lot of preparing for the opening and I don't want all the hours they are having me work. When I first applied to target no one told me I had to work a certain number of hours. So I was just wondering if my employer can, in fact, refuse to decrease my hours? And if it is legal for them to require me to tell them why exactly I want the time off? For instance, if I was going to college or joining another program would I need to provide proof of me being in that program? I hope you guys can help me, because I am freaking out.
