I'm not sure if I should just open a high-interest savings account or a CD. Obviously, I would have to wait to transfer the money from the CD, but I'm new at this and wonder how this works.

I inherited a house a few months ago from a relative, that I have been caring for the past 5 years. I am living in the house, but I want to sell it, and move somewhere else. I was wondering if I should pay and get a title search to make sure there is no liens attached or other suprises, or should I wait until I put it up for sale, because I was told the buyer have to get a title search anyway. If one is found, does that stop the sale? I had checked the recorders office and nothing was recorded at the time, but I hear now that liens are recorded in different places. Also , I hear that if liens are there and you want to sell, then money is placed in escrow and lienholder is paid first and you get the rest, Is this true? Help! I m confused here! I have no expereince with buying or selling a house right now. Thanks!

Asking this question because I know it still shows on credit report as paid but was in collections. Paying it off, will it boost my credit score? Thats my BIG question. Or wait until 2010, does it become clear after 7 yrs? How true is that?
I am trying to purchase my first car in my name.

I own a rental house with an upstairs apartment that I also rent. The village sent me a notice saying that that house has to be owner occupied to be able to rent the second floor apt. I have tenants in both units. They claim this ordinance was passed in 1995 before I bought the house. My lawyer thinks the rule is illegal and suggests I sue. But this will take me 5000 to 8000 dollars and 12 to 18 months to get to court. If I knew I would win I would do it. But having been involved in property lawsuits before, I don't trust any judges to rule for what should be right. Do I have a good case?

I worked for a major law firm in NY about 10 yrs ago. I had quit because my supervisor (female) was always in my azz about "something" - anything - even though my work was excellent, I worked late & wkends all the time & had no problems. I think she was jealous of me but anyway, I quit & tried to come back later but they rejected me. They said I "left them high & dry" - but at the same time, I got good letters of references from a top lawyer there and also from the manager in the MIS Dept. Now I want to apply for a job in one of their offices in another state but I'm afraid someone in the NY office will try to sabotage me. I never did anything to jeopardize my job when I worked in the NY office but I believe a few people there was jealous of me when I worked there & they always found a reason to approach me about something insignificant.

Does anyone think I'd have a problem if I applied & got a job in one of their offices in another state? Is there a way to ensure I'd be secure if I worked at that firm again in another state? Or should I stay away from that firm altogether?

I have a problem sticking with jobs. I always quit them after a month or two because I hate them. The longest job I've ever kept was 2 full years, but quit it to attend college. Then throughout college (about 6 years) I lived off of student loans and credit cards, got 1 job my freshman year that I only worked at for 2 months, and another one my junior year that I worked for 1 month and the most recent job was last year and that lasted 2 months. I quit them after a month or two cause I'm the kind of person who will not stay doing something that I can't stand. I can't leave out all of those short stints on my resume cause then it will look like I've been unemployed for 6 yrs and if I do put them on my resume, nobody will want to hire me. I wouldn't even want to hire me! What to do. What to do??
Oh and don't say something like put volunteer crap on my resume, cause I didn't volunteer anywhere since that's not my thing either. I was in a sorority in college and that was pretty much it.

I owed $5500 to a credit card. I was trying to pay it off in full, but between high interest rates (22%), and the fact that I am over the limit ($1500 over), i decided to settle. They offered me a settlement of $2600, which I have to pay over a 6 month period. Now, upon looking on yahoo answers, everyone is saying that settling is the same as not paying it at all. Should I continue to pay on my settlement? If it is going to look the same overall, then there is no need to keep paying, however I am trying to fix my credit as best I can. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Think about, something many of you may not be aware of. You could be a single parent, living at home with your parents (as so often the case is). Not work all year (i.e. not pay taxes). and Still get an Earned Income Credit for each child and the Govt. will give you thousands of dollars, when you didn't pay anything into the system? Is this not equally as unfair as the rich being able to find loop holes?
