Nepotism is where a company hires a person because they are a relative of an existing employee. In other words, if you and I were competing for a job and we were equally skilled, I would get the job because my father works at the company.

A recent story in the news at Yahoo! has a man complaining of nepotism at a mine in Newfoundland:
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/16062007/3/canada-father-sees-nepotism-s-hiring-practices.html

My question to you is whether you feel it should be illegal. If so, how would you enforce that?

If two candidates were equally skilled, would it not make sense to choose the relative of an existing reliable employee, since you already know them and are hoping that this honesty and reliabilty is true of their whole family?

I thought this is how most businesses work, so I am not sure what recourse this fellow has. What are your thoughts on this?

I have filed a burglary claim a week ago. My adjuster had his known construction company to come fix my doors. Total cost is $2000 (checks issued). Plus, my personal valuable loss claim is $3000 (unresolved). Will my insurance company drop me off from the policy? Can they do that? Or will my premium payment go up a lot higher? Can I do anything to prevent this?

Don't know if I worded correctly but the article I read said they've exercised options for shares of common stock and sold them in the same day. Didn't know if this is a sign of the company going private or what. Thanks!

I just started new job as a flight attendant, my employer is paying me aprox $ 400 per flight plus $65 per diem, I also have to drive around 65-70 miles(roundtrip) to the airport. What is the percentage that I should start setting aside so when I have to pay taxes I dont have to take out a lump sum. I believe I am not in a very high tax bracket and I dont have any dependants either? I also would like to set up an account with my bank to start saving the money but I am not sure what percentage of my income should I set aside every week asuming that I am making $700 plus $65 per diem.

My job offers tuition reimbursement assitance. The reimbursement would be added to my gross income. Will this reimbursement put me in a higher tax bracket where I would pay more when I file my taxes? Additionally, my huband and I have a home. Will our mortgage payments and interest help offset the additional tax I would pay (if any) from the tuition reimbursement?
