Invlove people, mention their strengths more often than weaknesses (10:1 is a decent ratio!)

Help them achieve their own ambitions, even if this means losing them at some point.

Ask for your employees' input or ideas about big decisions. Let them feel their opinions and efforts matter, and that they are therefore part of a team.

Positive reinforcement as much as possible. Give them positive feedback when it is deserved.

Probably the biggest ways to motivate an employee are to talk to them, listen to them, and let them know often that you value them and their work.
