I was made redundant yesterday and the company is in receivership. We didn't get notice of redundancy from the employer although we'd heard rumours and the massive sale was a bit of a give away. The receivers are sending out forms for everyone to claim wages, redundancy etc. I was only with the company for a year and a half so I know i'm not entitled to redundancy but I'm due wages and holiday pay. Will I get everything I'm due or do I have to wait for other debts to be paid and hope there's something left for me? Is it possible that i'll get nothing?

I always thought this was a joke until I got the disclosure statement from my agent.

It asks if their is any paranomral activity in my home such as alien sightings or ghosts, etc.?

It also asks if anyone has ever died in the home?

If anyone ever has to answer yes to these questions, won't it likely kills any likley sale?

And who would answer yes andhow the hell would they ever know?

Suppose your great Aunt Martha died at age 96, you mean you have to report this??????

Or that night your came in late a swore you saw felt someone looking at you? You have to report this?

How would a potential home buyer ever know anyhow?

I'm about to send in an application for an apartment on my and my roommates behalf. The roommate is out of town and hasn't seen the place, so I feel very responsible for anything that goes wrong.
The application asks for typical info, but it also asks for my bank account numbers- this seems off to me (I've read that some places like to wire your deposit back to you, but it still seems weird). It also asks for a deposit and first month's rent in the form of a cashier's check, money order or certified check, which will make the agreement binding pending approval. Is this safe? Those are basically cash-in-hand forms, so it makes me nervous having no recourse.
Lastly, for any DC natives, the place is betwee 14th and 15th NW just north of W ST NW, right by Meridian Hill Park. Any big caveats to the neighborhood? I know its "transitional" but its transitioning in the right direction as far as I can tell.

I see that the debit and credit balances for the trial balances are footed in the worksheet to check that they balance. Then the adjustments column has additional accounts, mostly expenses, revenues and payables. But what determines why those accounts don't just appear in the trial balance?

My employer has identified a new role, however they have not asked anyone currently employed here if they would be interested in the position. It hasnt been advertised internally, they have only advertised it externally. There may be some people here that would have liked to apply. What is the law here ? Do employers have to advertise/offer/give existing employees the chance to register their interest/apply before external recruitment commences?

I was FSBO for two months. I came very close to finding my own buyer. I was also showing my home 4-5 times per week. I had it priced $53,000 below a recent appraisal.

I get talked into listing the home via an agent at 6%. We drop the price, per his advice even lower. He slaps up a sign, sticks on the MLS and is never heard from again. In two weeks we have not even had one call, or showing!

I was placing huge full photo ads all over the web and getting great response, he does nothing but place it on his personal site that gets a whopping 18 hits a day.

He also asked me to stop placing my own ads on the web as it may "conflict" with his ads???????????

What the heck good is an agent then?

I specifically told him, I was capable of advertising and showing the home, but I was bringing him in, to network with other agents. So he sticks it in the MLS and that's it? For $200 there are brokers that can do that for you? So what? What a joke.

His Magellan Fund (which I unfortunately didn't invest in) rivaled the stock market per se. I was invested in some of his other funds and did QUITE well, Good luck. Make your nestegg fast. I believe the boat's about to flounder...............

The amount of money collected from private individuals through the Federal Income Tax is about the same amount as the INTEREST on the debt. If we weren't deficit spending, we wouldn't even need a Federal Income Tax! Isn't it time we held politician's feet to the fire and FORCED them to do what we all have to do? Create a BALANCED BUDGET? (By the way, Ron Paul is the only candidate who has never voted for an unbalanced budget!)

The nail salon I go to usually wants me to pay with cash which I think is strange considering they advertise that they accept credit cards and checks. Recently, I tried to pay with a credit card and was told they don't allow customers to add tips on the card. I didn't have cash, so I had to write a check for the whole amount (the service and the tip). The manager asked me to leave the payee blank and I assumed he would put the company name on there with a stamp. Once the check cleared my bank account, I noticed the check was made payable to an individual. Is this legal? I feel as though this is fraudulant activity. I don't know who to report it to or if there is anything that can be done to prevent them from getting away with this.

If a company accepts credit cards can they prevent the customer from adding a tip?

Would love some advice on this. I know I can go to a different salon, but I still think this is not fair to the customers.

Thanks.
