Come tax day, that is a day where you would actually receive extra money that the federal gov't has withheld. If no one filed on this day, the gov't would have excess money that is owed.

However I feel you are just talking about taxes in general. If you and I ceased to pay taxes to the gov't, little things that we take for granted, military defense, highways, roads, social order, personal safety, would no longer function. It may seem like a huge burden to pay taxes, but hey, we are still alive aren't we? The consequences of an absence of public goods could be catastrophic.

Then the government wouldn't have to worry about too much in taxes because two-thirds of Americans get a refund, and almost half of them get more refund than they paid in taxes during the prior year (refundable credits). Hence, the rich could pay less tax!

IRS is part of the Treasury Dept. So is the Bureau of the Mint.

They'd just print more dollars.

Now the consequences of that would make a swell book!

The government would have a lot of EXTRA money lying around, since most taxpayers are due a refund that they wouldn't receive if they didn't file.

We would all be better off. Business would have more to hire people. People would have more to spend so there would be more jobs. People would have more money for charities to take care of those that really need it. Only bad spot would be people like Ted Turner might have to do some real work. Since most of his income is from government grants he wouldn't be very happy . But so what.
