Small market teams are teams that don't play within/around a major metropolis'. San Antonio, Houston, Jacksonville, Charlotte, etc.are examples of small market teams.

Big market teams would include Miami, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, LA, Washington, Boston, etc.

So a big small market team is one like the Spurs which just won the NBA title again. It's a BIG small market team because it draws fans from all over and that people not only know about the team, but they have fan support outside their immediate area.

In investing, well, the phrase is coined by people usually hungry for business. For example, a smaller realtor may say they have a big small market team as they compete with the Century 21's of the world.

Hope that helps!
