B & C Corp. is panning to spend large amounts of money on R&D over the next few years and feels that it may not be able to use all the tax shields generated by a 42.75% debt ratio. The company considers lowering the debt ratio to 20%. HOW will this change its WACC and cost of equity? Assume that the lower debt ratio will reduce the before-tax cost of debt to 8%.
【Hint: The change in debt ratio will lower the cost of equity. The problem can be solved by using the “three step” process of unlevering and relevering the WACC.)
Ref. Step 1: Unlever the WACC to calculate the opportunity cost of capital r.
Step 2: Calculate the cost of equity at 20% debt ratio.
Step 3: Calculate the new WACC.
[Remember: r = rD D/V + rEE/V, rE = r + ( rA ーrD )D/E ]

I got a walmart credit card recently. It can be used only at Wal-mart, and I can use it to buy things and pay no interest as long as I make the minimum payment. I'm wanting to buy a bike ASAP (gas prices) but the bike I want is 200. I get paid Friday but don't want to pay for it all right away. I have only a 150 limit on my card and was wondering if this would increase it... For example, I buy a DVD player for 130. after tax it'll be close to 140 or 150. Could I buy it with the card then return it the next day and pay my bill with the refund and make no money and lose no money to increase my credit? I'm wanting to buy an LCD tv but don't want to dish out 500 for it.

I don't own a car I just ride a cab going to my work and back to my house, it's comfortable for me. I just wonder why other people craving to have a car though they can ride a cab or something to get to the place they want. You would spend lots of gasoline rather than spending money for the transportation.

I had a credit card from a bank in my home country and am now on employment in Middle East. Because of certain financial reasons, I cannot pay the outstanding amount ( the minimum payment too is high). The firm has called and informed that they will go legal if i dont settle by the month end. Paying the amnt is not possible as of now. The last payment made was about 5 months ago. What is the best recourse I shall take in this situation and to what extent can the bank go in getting their outsatnding.
