Here is my story.
I am a 27 year old married mom of 2. Hubby is bipolar and can't work. I have a few medical ailments that prevent me from working much outside of the home.
We have about $15,000 of debt. Counsumer credit card, past utilities, medical expenses, etc.

We WANT to pay them off. Our problem is we don't know if we should work with a debt consildation program or simple file for bankruptcy. Our income fluxuates from $800 a month to $1500. We live in Ohio. Our rent is $605.00. We have no car payments. We own a 1982,1992,1993) We never go out to eat, go to movies, I am wearing the same clothes from when I was 18. Trust me, there is no way to cut back on anything.
I am just not sure if we can even afford to come up with a debt consilidation plan given our situation and income limits. Would it be better both emotionally and financially to just wipe the slate clean? Thoughts/Tips/Appreciated...stinky butts need not answer! THANKS!

If one is awarded money as a result of a legal settlement, do I need to pay federal (and/or state taxes) on the money earned from such a settlement? The settlement was a result of a grievance filed for employment discrimination and wrongful termination.

I own a Two family Home in Queens, NYC and I rented the apartment to a family member and they have no lease. I'm having problems with them and they called the department of building on me claiming I have an illegal basement, which I don't. How can I get them out of my house without any problems and not evicting them. I know that they want me to evict them so that they won't have to pay rent if ordered by a judge if it goes that far. Please advise.

I am a first time home buyer and would like to shop around for the best deals/rates. I'd like to get pre-approved for a loan. I'd also like to shop around for the best terms, interest rates, etc. I'd also like to make sure I am pre-approved for the right amount (for the house that I want and can afford). Is it a good idea to apply for pre-approval to more than one lender so I can pick the best offer? I know it might be negative for a lender to see my credit report be pulled from different lenders. Would they see that as someone looking for the best loan or as someone looking to over extend their credit? Would they be able to tell the credit checks were pulled for a mortgage application? I'll probably have more questions, but I guess I should wait for the answer to this one before jumping the gun. Thanks in advance.

I live in Los Angeles, Ca., I moved into an my apt 3 months ago, my rent is paid every month 10 days before it is due, I am on a month-to-month lease, remember it's only been 3 months now, I came home to find a 30 day notice to move on my door, but this is the issue, I was only there for 3 weeks before having to leave for Nevada for business, so the last week of the first month I was gone, I was gone for 2 moths and and seven days to be exact, my rent for Feb' was paid on January 24, what could be the reason for him wanting me out so soon, and is this legal? Can he just displace me without cause? Here's the thing I don't have children wasn't there long enough to have even 1 visitor, I am a nurse so I sometimes work 16 or more a day on-call, What could I have possibly done? and how can I stop this eviction?

Hi,
I have resigned my job today. In the my offer letter the following sentense is written:

"In addition to your monthly salary, you will receive a one-time hiring bonus in the amount of $5,000.00, less all applicable taxes, which is repayable in full should you voluntarily leave the company within one year of your hire date".

I joined the company on Mar 6th 2006. So my one year will be completed on Mar 5th 2007. But i given 2 weeks notice today which lead to 16th Feb as my last date.

Now my HR says that i have to repay my bonus, no exceptions !!

Now how much i have to repay. Is it $5000 or $2800 i got after tax ? What does full mean here ?

Giving back $5000 is weird. I can give back what ever i got in my hand.

If at all i give $5000 will i get $2200 from IRS back?

Please help.
Thanks

A couple of friends and myself are looking apartments and we need to know what our bills may look like in about 5-6 months. We have an idea of our water ($10-$20/month) but we don't really know what electric will look like.

What I would like to know is?

1) How much do you pay monthly,
2) Who is your energy provider
3)Does your energy provider require a contract/will allow for new people?
4)What do you live in, what you normally run (a computer, tv, keep your lights on all hours of the day, etc.)
5) anything else that may be useful!

Thanks!

I am self-employed and pay for my medical insurance. For 2005 I was able to reach the 7.5% needed to deduct medical expenses. For 2006, I had crappy insurance where I had to pay everything upfront and they would reimburse me 80% (drugs, procedures, visits, etc . . . ) I would count the 20% that I still had to pay towards my medical deduction but never the 80% I got paid back. I have since switched to an HMO (which is kinda crappy in itself) but at least I don't have to pre-pay.

My dilemma is I have two large medical expenses that I prepaid but have not been reimbursed the 80% by my ex-insurance. I am in dispute over them trying to get them reimbursed with no such luck. Should I just deduct the full amounts because I paid the bills in 06 and their future reimbursement is uncertain? Will it matter if I eventually do get reimbursed in 2007?

At age 50 I lack the zip I once had. Living morally, and simply has it advantages. Prozac has knocked my libido out, but it manages my depression, and at 50 I rather like not being pulled by my libido--it used to be a pain. No AIDs worry.

I do have a prison and nursing home ministry to help keep me going some. I am also involved with a tiny nondenonimnational church, but there is no pay and a limited work.

I genuinely feel church work is worthwhile, but its not like when I dreamed of being a professional historian. That goal is gone I am underqualified. The field is flooded, I have too many gaps in my resume, and not enough publications. I am in a Bible study distance learning seminary, but it is going slow

Having chronic anxiety, depression, and panic attacks with little, almost no full time work experience, would disability be a possibility? Any thoughts appreciated.

The reason I'm asking is because I heard of a place that you can go to, and from your information they can find out if the IRS actually owes you money, from old W-2 that you never filed for some reason or you just didn't know. I would like to know if anyone can help me because I just started filing taxes and I wasn't aware you can put the house too. So I'm trying to see if I can Recover that lost money.

never been late with them, got card 3/06, it says online my checking account "reason to doubt collectibility", I have been a few days late on other credit cards, never 30 days late to ruin credit, other companys sent friendly reminder letters, or called ask when payment was coming. How can they take money only 3 days late? Without permission? OUT of my checking? I make most of my payments online, some through the mail. I had already made a partial payment in Jan. it wasn't due yet, so I only owed about 100.00, the orig. amt. due was 138.00, but yet they took the full 138.00, I saw somebody else asked a question about her sister being late collection calls all the time and she asked if they could take money from her. People said not without her permission, or sueing her, or garnishing wages, Called Bank of Amer. they said that's illeg. and they don't do that. The name of this bank is Universal SavingsBank, they sent letter months back saying Chase bought them, Chasesaysno.Whatdo I do?

Okay. Last year was not a good year for me! My husband left me and I lost my job. On top of that my auto finance company has been looking for the car (they have been calling my mother's house and everything!) They don't know where I am. The transmission is not working well on the car and they know it. But I am still able to use the car to search for work and take the kids to school. Well, I got my free credit report and saw that they have a charge off on that account! What does that mean??? Does it mean they are sewing me? Should I still pay the car off or give them the car back? Please help!
