The reason I'm asking is because I heard of a place that you can go to, and from your information they can find out if the IRS actually owes you money, from old W-2 that you never filed for some reason or you just didn't know. I would like to know if anyone can help me because I just started filing taxes and I wasn't aware you can put the house too. So I'm trying to see if I can Recover that lost money.

You'll have to file the tax return for the year in question. It's already too late for 2002 and earlier tax years if you have a refund coming. The deadline for 2003 is April 17, 2007 for refunds.

Any open tax year is open until a return is filed. If you owe tax, there will be penalties and interest that will continue to accrue until you file. There are no penalties if a refund is due, however.

The only way to determine what, if anything, you have coming back (or owe!) is to prepare the actual return. You can get prior year tax forms and instructions on the IRS website.

If you didn't file, they don't owe you anything yet. If it's older than the 2003 tax year, it's too late to get a refund. If 2003 or later, you can file a return now and still get your refund. For 2003 tax year, if you don't file by April 15, 2007, it'll be too late to still collect your refund.

To find out what your refund will be, if you didn't already file, fill out the forms for that year.
