I don't have much knowledge of investment in anything. What is the best thing for me to do with my money? Should I buy stocks?, mutual funds?, bonds? real estate,? land? or anything else you can think of? rentals maybe? I don't make a lot of money, and I am concerned about being taken advantage of. I work as a float secretary and have been here for 3 months. I was only supposed to be here until the end of Jan, but thought I'd ask if they'd need me after, to which they said no. A few hours later they said yes and "we'd rather have more staff on board". The latest is, they now think they no longer need me after all. They've excluded me from their Xmas lunch, even though other float secs were invited and now they're saying that perhaps I could do a 3 day week, instead of my usual 5. I replied that I need 5 days worth pay. Do you think they're taking the p***?

This cant be legal. I bought some items in CA, sales tax is 8.25%, I tried to return them in MD. The manager said she would only return the 5% MD tax. I had the receipt clearly showing what I sold. When I worked in Macy's, we did sales tax adjustments for things bought out of state. Walmart says they dont do that. So who keeps the 3%? They wont have to pay the taxes because their records will show the item was returned. So they just keep the money? This cant be legal.

This is the first year that my security deposit for my appartment has started to earn interest (it is entirely managed by the rental company). I am totally frustrated with how this is turning out.

So for $850, I earned $11.34 interest (horrible rate, but that's not the point). Out of which an "agent admin fee" of 1% = 8.50 was deducted, and I was cut a check of $2.84.

The really bad news however is that they issued me a 1099-INT for $11.34 interest income, of which I owe 33% tax, which is more than the entire check I got. So my question is: is this 1% agent admin fee deductable at all with standard deduction? We do not itemize and will certainly not start itemizing just because of this.

It is just really frustrating that I end up paying money for this supposed "interest income"!
