I work as a float secretary and have been here for 3 months. I was only supposed to be here until the end of Jan, but thought I'd ask if they'd need me after, to which they said no. A few hours later they said yes and "we'd rather have more staff on board". The latest is, they now think they no longer need me after all. They've excluded me from their Xmas lunch, even though other float secs were invited and now they're saying that perhaps I could do a 3 day week, instead of my usual 5. I replied that I need 5 days worth pay. Do you think they're taking the p***?

Yes.
Don't let yourself be messed around like this, just quit and find another job.
Working at a place that treats you badly can really damage you, I ended up with a bout of depression at one job when my management couldn't tell me if I was to be made redundant or not.

yip, definitely.
start looking for a new job, and go for a full time position instead of a temp job, something with a minimum contrat of at least a year. don't tell your current employer you're looking for work elsewhere until you've found something though, you may end up without any job
you'll probably be able to find better wages if you look around, so don't just go for the first thing you see... you might even be able to get a job where you work 3 days, but you get paid the same as working 5 days in your current job... wouldn't that be nice :D

They aren't playing fair are they? Don't fret about it ( I know its difficult) and try not to let the Xmas lunch thing get to you (that was really mean - but it says more about your company and the people than it does about you). Time to move on by the sound of it - find something else in an company with a better culture and where they show staff a little more respect - you know you deserve it!

Yes,
they are messing you about... but it seems that you have the upper hand.
Let them know that you either need to know, as soon as possible... you either get a guarantee of 5 days per week employment or you will find a new position.
If they need you, they will let you know.... if they don't need you, then you wont be kept hanging on for nothing

Leave now and get another temp job with a view to working for a decent company. The one you're at now sounds like it sucks.

Can't you find another job, Poopsy? It seems like you ask an unhappy question about your work at least once a week. I'm not having a go, I'm feeling for you. Go somewhere you are appreciated, and are happy in your work.
