Good question. I teach piano for a living. I have taught a few adults in the past but specialize in children. Currently I teach 20 kids a week between the ages of 7 and 14. I drive to their houses and teach them for 45 minutes or an hour. It pays great and I love doing it. I have been doing it for 4 years and I plan on doing it for the rest of my life (I'm 24) Until 4 years ago, I had no idea that I would be teaching piano. I've always loved music, but didn't see myself making a living at it. If you asked me 10 years ago, I didn't really know. If you asked me 5 years ago, I would of said something in the studio industry. Although I am happy with my job, I am by no means financially secure. Sometimes I lose clients at the drop of a hat. It's my dream to be a successful record producer in the music industry. I love working closely with artists and really wish that I could get paid doing this. As I grow older, I'm starting to seem more and more that I will basically just do whatever I can get hired for. At least that's how it seems with my line of work. I will never give up my dreams of producing and will always try to teach piano, but I am going to continue to work towards my future - whatever it may be.

I work in a merchant bank. I'm not doing what I studied to do and not what I really planned to do - but the job I have is the best I have had (as in the most pleasant and happiest) during my worklife in London. I'm appreciated and I work with some very interesting and good people. So I guess that makes me pretty lucky.
Most people don't end up doing what they planned going on what old university contacts say as hardly any of us ended up doing what we studied for - what I would love to do is limited in vacancies and the pay would be bad - so compromises and opportunities dictate rather than what you would choose to follow if money/opportunities were not an object!
