How do I sell shares....the type of shares given freely by the banks to their customers ?

Barclays and Abbey National (now Santander).

Just take your share certificate into the bank and tell them you want to sell...they'll do it for you and post you the cheque it's as simple as that,though with Satander you will have to fill in a form for tax purposes...the bloody thing is in Spanish so you might need help with that.
