I live in a house owned by my mother and we mutually agree that I should take over ownership of the house as I've been paying all expenses associated with it, mortgage, insurance, repairs etc... The mortgage is in her name solely and so is the deed. Any ideas on the easiest way for me to take ownership?

We inherited some property that was sold (against our wishes--long story) for about $110,000. The property was appraised at $81,900. Do we pay taxes on that amount under any tax law (i.e. inheritance tax, estate tax)? I really HATE talking to the IRS, therefore have chosen to put my fate in your hands.

I suckered for an ATM card scheme because they sounded so legit. I sent them money that I borrowed and now I am out of the money and didn't receive anything but the runaround. I am going to forward everyone of their e-mails to me to the FBI and the local authorities. I believe it was one person using different names. They even went as far as to use the WEMA of Africa as the bank that was suppose to send me an ATM card. I sent the first amount of money and they swear that a FEDEX employee stole the card from a magazine they shipped it in. Then they asked for all this additional money to send me a replacement card. They really had me going because in the past when I received an e-mail from Nigeria I would reply by saying I would forward it to the FBI and I never heard from them again. This group kept corresponding with me and I thought they were legit. Fooled me and I am so mad I could strangle me somebody.

i am a highschool junior and am thinking about majoring in engineering. I am not real good in math ( pre-calc) or Chem this year. I am going to a harder school this year than before. The average SAT score is 1200. It is one of the best schools in indiana ( West Lafayette JR/SR high) . I was wondering if i would have a chance in the engineering courses and if i should go to a school that is known for engineering like purdue or go to a less known engineering school like indiana or wisconsin. Thanks for your opinions. If anybody is an enginner could you please explain your avg work day

I joined this company about a year back. The work explained to me looked so promising. But then, 6 months down the road, I was not doing what I had been promised of. I feel really misreable doing tons of paperwork.

I am more of a hands-on type of person, so I woould really like the nature of my job to change. Plus, my boss has a terrible temper, and any chances of talking to her on my job change seems doomed.

People keep telling me that I should tell her, I have and she promised me that I would get some help (an assistant) sometime soon, but it dosent look like its going to happen. I am so upset, and angry with myself.

I do not know where my careers heading too. The reason I do not want to leave, is because I love this company too much. I am also worried that if I ask for a department transfer, there would be a backlash from my current boss.

Is there anyway that I have a right to ask for this change? I want to be happy at what I do, and not be bullied at work.

The gal Bob was married to previously had an operation to help with an obesity problem. The health insurance did not pay so they got a loan and both signed. When they divorced, she said she would pay that bill and this is reflected in the divorce which Bob did himself. Now she has stopped paying and it's reflecting on Bob's credit. She has moved to California to avoid having a judgment placed on her and we're stuck with this negative information on his credit score. All the professionals we've consulted tell us the only way out is to pay it ourselves but we really can't afford to take on this financial burden. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this or has successfully fought a similar problem.

I've been having an extremely difficult time getting UPS to honor insurance I took out on a package sometime back. I shipped a somewhat expensive pair of speakers (~$350 and paid for insurance accordingly) from a UPS Store a few months back and the speakers were throughly damaged by UPS due to poor handling - I have been chasing after the UPS Store and UPS (their generic complaint line) for months now and keep getting the run around. Does anyone know of a communication channel that would allow me to connect with someone higher up to get this matter resolved ASAP? Thanks in advance, your help is much appreciated!

I "settled" with several credit companies for over $40,000 in debt. The IRS considers the settlement amount as earned income unless the tax payer was "insolvent" at the time of the settlement. My home has minimal equity but I don't know how to determine the value the IRS will use in calculating my debt to income ratio. It could make a big difference in my tax liability for the past year but was better than filing for bankruptcy or losing my home. This question even seems to stump tax advisors. Any wisdom out there in Yahoo land would be appreciated.

Celine is going to be subject to the AMT in 2005. She owns an investment building and is considering disposing of it and investing in other realty. Based on an appraisal of the building’s value, the realized gain would be $85,000. Ed has offered to purchase the building from Celine with the closing date being December 29, 2005. Ed wants to close the transaction in 2005 because certain beneficial tax consequences will result only if the transaction is closed prior to the beginning of 2006. Abby has offered to purchase the building with the closing date being January 2, 2006. The building has a $95,000 greater AMT adjusted basis. For regular income tax purposes, Celine expects to be in the 25% tax bracket in 2005 and the 28% tax bracket in 2006. What are the relevant tax issues that Celine faces in making her decision?
