I am wanting to switch careers after working in IT Development the last 10 years. I am burned out and need change. I would like to get into a less hands on technical role and get into Management. I have an undergraduate degree in Information Systems and have pondered going back for my MBA. However, there are no guarantees this would help me find a better job. I don't mind staying within the Technology sector, but I just don't want to do development work anymore. Your comments are appreciated.

Last Nov.7, somebody wrote me asking for assistance. She said she and her late husband have a hard earned fund deposited in STANDARD TRUST BANK (STB) in Abidjan, Cote d' Ivoire amounting to 1.5m U$. She is very willing to donate it to orphan, charity institution should i allow myself to accept it.So i accepted it since part of it will be allocated for my service. She gave the contact detail of the bank where the fund is deposited. She said i should cooperate with Dr. Jean Nelson,a director. After so,i have been indorsed to GiroBank in UK,who will service the transfer from Cote d' Ivoire to my country. But due to AML law,i've been required to obtain a TAX BOND INSURANCE when a premium is required to pay worth £5,970.00.Since i dont have that money,i refused.I contacted STB again, and they advised me to open an account with them so the fund can be transferred to mine, this time they're asking $1,500.00 only for initial deposit. Are this true? How can i withdraw?I shall appreciate any legal advice

What is the best way to do this (do I give the employees a check made out to "cash"") How do I still get a tax deduction for this. How do most small businesses do this?

Our managment at work seemed to think it would be fun to tell all the temps that they "think" that our christmas bonus would be put into our checks from the temp agency instead of handed out in cash like the regular employees. Now don't get me wrong I never really expected a bonus, that is until they started "thinkinging" we would get one! They really shouldn't have opened their mouths, because now we didn't get one, and I for one am royally pissed off and want to do everything I can to bring these bastards down. So how do I do it, short of illegal measures?

My wife was hit by another car about a year ago. She broke two fingers, which sounds trivial, but they were broken quite badly. She had one surgery where pins were inserted to heal the bones, and another to extract scar tissue that was limiting her movement. She was in hand therapy for a year, but she still doesn't have anything close to full movement in the hand with the broken fingers -- sometimes she needs help cutting a piece of chicken at dinner and things like that.

I estimate that the insurance company paid out about $20k for the hand therapy and another $20k for the various surgeries and doctor's visits.

I assume they'll be offering a pain and suffering settlement in the near future. How much should we expect? How will we know if they're lowballing us? If I'm pretty sure they are trying to screw us over, is it acceptable to tell them we'll get a lawyer if their offer isn't more reasonable?

Can anybody help with finding a merchant service provider for my new online car hire company.

I need to check/authorise a transaction before we proceed with the hire agreement but i dont need to take the money until the car is returned. If there is no damage on the car then no money would be taken from the card.

I just need to check if the funds required to cover the deposit are available on the card or not

Any help would be much appreciated

...and, would it be worth offering a good explanation of what you based your price on, or would that just offend?

The owner designed the house, and it is extremely, er, "unique." We like it, but the odds of other people liking it so much aren't so hot. And some elements of the design, whether anybody likes it or not, plain reduce the value -- extra-small rooms, etc. We're pretty much going to have to insult her designs, and her extremely high view of her house, pretty thoroughly.

Compared to what we can compare it to, it's absurdly overpriced. We want it, but not at the asking price. We also don't want to wait a year for her to figure out she needs to lower the price.

Should we:

Point out the reasons we think it's overpriced, not in the context of an offer, and see what the response is?
Make a lowball offer without comment?
Make a lowball offer, with a list of reasons why?

I grant that this is a bit of a silly question, but I'm curious as to what others would do.

I live in the UK and have a capital of just over £100k (which I believe is about $250.000)...
Would I be able to buy a property (let's say a 2 bedrooms house) just outside Melbourne without having to borrow money from a bank?
Would you recommend it?
Thanks for your opinions...

I just started an online boutique last month and am on a very limited budget. I would like ideas on where I could advertise cheap that would receive results as well as any specific types of advertising that would be better than others. I know some of the best ways to get your name out there is by word of mouth and I of couse have my website posted in my signature on forums and emails. I'm not targeting any specific location since it is an online store. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
