Merchant Service Provider?

Question

Can anybody help with finding a merchant service provider for my new online car hire company.

I need to check/authorise a transaction before we proceed with the hire agreement but i dont need to take the money until the car is returned. If there is no damage on the car then no money would be taken from the card.

I just need to check if the funds required to cover the deposit are available on the card or not

Any help would be much appreciated

This needs to be instant & online, calling the bank would be time consuming and require man or woman power. Calling the bank would also mean we could not operate outside the banks working hours.

thank for any advice but please dont advise me to contact the bank. i thought of this before it was suggested. i'm looking for informed answers. can user please stop giving daft answers like phone the bank or try a google search just to raise their points

There are options out there for you. You can be set up with an internet payment gateway, and run authorization only transactions. I think the online gateway is the best due to the simplicity of set up in taking authorizatiuon only. It can also be used to make the final transaction for payment. Youo check a box in your set up menu to either run a transaction as auth only or a conplete settled transaction.

I'm not sure if you can do this.

When you go through merchant services they check/authorise and debit the payment as one manouver. You would have to take the payment and then apply a refund to the customers account.

I'm not sure that your customers would find this acceptable.

Whenver I have used a Hire Car they just take a paper based signed card payment and when the car is returned in good order they give me back the paper based transaction and I destroy it.

I hope i'm wrong and you find a way round the problem.
