I am wanting to switch careers after working in IT Development the last 10 years. I am burned out and need change. I would like to get into a less hands on technical role and get into Management. I have an undergraduate degree in Information Systems and have pondered going back for my MBA. However, there are no guarantees this would help me find a better job. I don't mind staying within the Technology sector, but I just don't want to do development work anymore. Your comments are appreciated.

Just take a leap. Try going to get your Masters during the evening. More education never hurts. Your experience itself will help you no matter what you decide to. Trust your instinct and follow through

Sounds like you work for a large Corporation with lots of Politics and Back Stabbing.
If you couldn't get into Management in Ten Years - there are forces working against you.
I am retired with a Laptop and I have a Computer Consultant who charges $70.00 per hour plus a Travel charge if he visits. He keeps busy all the time. If you did something like that - you would be your own boss.

I understand where you are coming from. I have an undergrad in IS but I really like accounting and management. Is there any way you could transfer to another department in the company? Also, is there a possibility to get a managemnt promotion in your own department? Good luck man!

Have you thought about maybe working on your MBA at night? Does your company have any benefits that would help pay for it?

Maybe if you explain all this to your current HR dept they could help you somehow.

Or, if you are actively looking for a job outside your company, mention you would like to work on your MBA. They may be will to help you out somehow.

Just do it. If it fails, go back to work. I left my job and started my own business in an industry that I had no training, no experience, no contacts, no leads and in a different country.

It was tough, but now doing ok.

But all worth the experience.
