Hi all. I'm looking to buy a house that is about 70 years old. It has a finished basement, and one of the pipes from the radiator system is wrapped in asbestos insulation. In general, it seems to be in good condition; however, there is one spot (a few inches wide) that has been cut or is frayed. From everything I've read, asbestos is generally more dangerous if it's removed as it can make airborne the fibers which can then be inhaled and cause cancer in 5-30 years. However, I'm not sure (1) if this is dangerous (2) if the current home owners have been living in a dangerous situation (3) if it makes sense to invest in this house without doing any asbestos removal or, at the least, repair. I spoke with a few companies today, and got an estimate of 1000-1500 for removal of the asbestos.

Is this dangerous?
Is there a way to work "dealing" with the asbestos in the contract?
Am crazy for considering this place?
Am I crazy for thinking the asbestos on the pipe is this serious?
Help!

I have an agency suing me for $452 and they name the places but not the bills, all which I paid off except for 1 and that wasnt 452,are they able to sue for bills that are already paid or are they trying to get me to pay the fees for their clients to hire them?

My friend's not lazy. I feel offended for someone saying that. He's one of the hardest workers I know. He works in retail, with everyone buying things from the internet his work place is losing buisness to the internet. We live in Detroit, has anyone watching the news. Almost everyone is losing their jobs in Detroit.

I know it all depends when comparing, but I am interested in all, but mostly low income, 1 or 2 people living in your home, just let me know your situation if you don't mind, and whether or not you have saved up your receipts and added them later. I think most people have a day , weekend, maybe, when they do their grocery (food and non-food items-light bulbs, advil, bathroom things, etc.)shopping, and then stop every day or 2 during the week and pick up things they forgot, or something they ran out of, etc.
I saved up my receipts and added them up and it was like about $230 for 2 weeks, and I didn't have much food left at all. Someone with a good bit higher income than mine, said they didn't spend near that much on groceries and items, but they haven't ever added them up, and I don't think they think about those little stops during the week, count. They add up a lot more than people think.

I work for a Microtel Inn and the owner just sold the Hotel. The ppl at the head corp. office tryed to keep us in the dark, but we knew what was going on. Now, with these new owners coming in, probably this week, they are more than likely going to fire us. I heard that I wouldnt be able to draw unemplyment because the old owners didn't FIRE u, so they are not resposible, and the new owners didn't HIRE u so they arent responsible either. That really sucks if it's true. I can't affored not to have a job, I've got a 2 month old and a family to support! Does anyone know how unemployment works, I live in Oklahoma by the way.
