I have an agency suing me for $452 and they name the places but not the bills, all which I paid off except for 1 and that wasnt 452,are they able to sue for bills that are already paid or are they trying to get me to pay the fees for their clients to hire them?

Collection agencies are hired by the people you owe money to that had not been paid. The collection agencies usually get 50% of the money they collect so they can be ruthless.

Having said that, they probably don't care that you already paid but they cannot win if they do succeed in suing you provided you have proof the amounts they are suing for are paid.

As far as the one item you haven't paid, the original creditor may have added late fees and interest to come up with a figure different than you have...

Tell the collection agency that you would be happy to pay any and all debts they can substantiate! Ask them to send you the proof you owe the money and copies of all receipts that created the balance. They will then have to contact the original creditor and it will be discovered that the accounts are paid!!! Works like a charm!

No, they cannot. You need to send them a certified letter requesting verification for the amount you owe and verification that the original creditor gave them authorization to collect on the debt. They have to provided that to you within 30 days. Listed below is a link to a site which has sample letters you can use as well as other useful information (including the laws they are breaking if they do not provide you the info) and the fines you can sue them for. Good luck!

i would relax. companies will try anything to get some extra money. greedyness i tell you. they cant sue you without any documentation that you still owe them. they are just trying to rattle your cage to get you to pay up. i would consult with a lawyer on this.
