I often see rebates from Staples, Buy.com, and other sites where the end price of the item is $0 after the rebate. Why give it away for free?

This "Focus Factor" commercial is on a lot. They use the word "free" about a dozen times then at the end say you only pay $4.95 "to help cover the cost of shipping". Of course there's no way it costs more than a buck or two to ship a little bottle of pills.

Is anybody really stupid enough to pay $4.95 for this and think they got it for "free??

I would appreciate your input on this

Many thanks

I am getting married 12-31-06 and I am confused as to how I am supposed to file taxes after the marriage... Separately or Jointly? If separate then there must be a reason or you get less back and if jointly then stiill less because of my daughter. My 1 year old daughter is not his and he has no legal rights to her so won't we have to file separately? and will there be a penalty because we are filing separately because of a child that doesn't belong to the other parent? We are also getting married the last day of the year so we technically wouldn't have to file joint... correct? But then what about next year??

I'm looking to open up a bar/lounge, but have no idea (1) how much money I'd need to open it up and ready it for clientele and (2) how I'd get my hands on that much money, stuck as a temp. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I'm in my early fifties, havent got a job. Am studying toward my phlebotomy certificate and real-estate investing. Me and my husband used to own three businesses at one time back in the '90's. He got caught up in two child support orders, which completely destroyed us financially. I went back to school to become an R.N. but I found things in the field I didnt like. Now I'm onto studying phlebotomy. My husband has had cancer that has debilitated him for 5 years now, so he is no longer in the work force, he can barely help himself on a day to day basis, so everything is left up to me now. I feel hopelessly lost because we have never been able to recover from this financial ruin. We have no savings, we just live day-to day.
I just completed my general studies two year degree at a college, and then was supposed to go onto nursing school, but I got turned off. Now I have to quickly decide how to get us back on our feet.We have been dealing with these problems since 1993. I plan to get B.A
