I talked to a Merril Lynch representative and he told me that you have to have $2,000 up front before they would even considering taking the time to let you pick some stocks. Is this the case for all stock companies? If so, can I just go online straight to some of these Blue Chip companies and invest online with them without even having to go through these brokers to invest in stock? For example, could I go online at Walmart or Pepsi or Mc Donald's and invest through them online?

I put almost an entire decade into this company and they fired me for a made up reason. I had stellar reviews etc. I feel so betrayed and am convinced it is age discrimination as I am in my 40s but cannot prove it. I have been majorly depressed since this happened and find it hard to move on. I am burned out. thanks

When I was six months pregnant, I was up for a promotion where I work (financial institution). I spoke to my direct supervisor about it, and she spoke to HR. My supervisor came back and told me that the VP, HR said that they didn't want to promote me "right now" because new mothers often return to the work force "less focused on their jobs" and "not as motivated or ambitious" as they had been previously. I was upset, took some time to calm down, then pushed the issue. My supervisor agreed that this was pretty bogus, and took my promotion to HR again, as well as my new complaint about why I was turned down. The VP, HR said THIS TIME that I was not promoted because I had not met the criteria (pretty weak excuse-- I did so!), and told my supervisor that she had taken what was said out of context, and that was not how the comments were intended. I really like where I work, and this was a shock to me. Now I'm on mat leave. What do I do? Do I pursue this at all? Pls HELP!

What I mean by right way is the intelligent way - I want to do research and will read books...I just do not know which books are best for me. I am a 19 year old female and want to make educated investments. At this time, I cannot afford a stockbroker or any type of financial advisor....but I am committed to learning and investing my money wisely....any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I am a college student and I work part-time. The money from this part-time job is all saved, and I do not plan on spending it any time soon. As I earn more, I would like to explore some options for putting this money into an account that would multiply it over time. I know there are many types of accounts out there, I just want to know which is the best for me...I am willing to keep the money in for a minimum of 5 years. Please help and thank you in advance. :)

I am a member of Bank of America, if this helps at all.

I've lived in California my whole life and im just ready for a move, i'm sick of it here, its just to expensive for us. My work has laid us all of and 2/28/2007 is our last day. There moving to Hillsboro, Oregon and offered us jobs if we're willing to relocate, at no cost to them thu so we'll have to pay for our move. I've looked at apartments, houses and townhouses and its so nice and cheap up there. For a 3 bedroom nice new townhouse it was only $1100. Thats how much I pay now for a small 1 bedroom apartment. Would u take the move. I'm so nervous. I wanna do it but just not alone. I live with my BF of 5 years and he's willing to do it. But he would rather 1 of us {me} go up there and try it out 1st, then he'll come up. He would move back into his parents house for a few months not pay rent and send me money. I just dont know. I wanna do it but i'm so scared. How can i push myself to do it.

You both buy comporable $500,000 homes next door to eachother. You buy your house free and clear with no mortgage. Your friend puts 10% down with a 30-year mortgage and smiles slyly when you ask her what she did with the rest. What does she know that you don't? Who is going to be in the better financial situation in the future? If you are going to answer, back it up with a quality discussion!

I'm a student and I've been working at a retail store for about 6 months. I started as a summer temp, but I decided to stay when school started back. Even though I like it, I'm starting to get stressed with dealing with school (I'm a pre-dental major), work, and social life. Also, they're not being flexible with schedules. I'm considering quitting after I go in Thursday and Friday, preferably Saturday, but I wanted to know if I had to give 2 weeks notice or is 2 days acceptable as wll? Thanks in advance.
