I have a home worth 550,000. I owe 187,000. I only need to borrow around 20,000 to hold me over until I sell my house. I just listed it with a realestate agent. Everone I talked to wants to refinece the whole loan.

I'm a nineteen year old community college student, still living at home with my parents. I previously went away to a university last year as a freshman, now living back home is a BIG adjustment and I would do anything to be able to afford my own place. My parents, it seems like, are even more stricter than they were to me when I was in high school, even though I'm almost 20. If I could afford my own apartment, I would leave this house right now. However, the amount of hours that I would have to work to even afford everything would be enormous. Many of my community college friends still live at home with their parents too, however, they express little interest in getting an apartment, which would have been the cheapest way to do it, getting an apartment with a bunch of friends so individual rent payments would be much lower. Why has society made it so hard for young adult college students to make it on their own?

Suze Orman says no, since I'm not getting a company match. Still, I like the idea of socking away money and reducing my taxable income. I also maxxed out a roth ira. So should I save 10-20% in the 401k or completely discontinue it and use the extra income in a 5% savings account for the downpayment? I have about 30 some years until retirement.

If we can't pay rent by Monday, we're getting evicted and our land lords mentioned something about having our wages garnished, which if I could afford to have my wages garnished then I'd be paying rent...So, I just was wondering if someone out there knew the procedure???

My partner and I split up 4 months ago due to him cheating on me, after 6 years together, 4 engaged & 3 living together. We purchased the house that we had been living in for two years last year and due to credit difficulties on my part, the mortgate and all the bills were in my partners name. As he was paid monthly and me weekly it was agreed that he would pay the bills and I would pay for living (food, cigarettes for him, clothes for both of us). We split up on amicable terms, despite the reason behind it and I stayed in the house for a few weeks afterwards. Due to him making me feel increasingly uncomfortable by bringing his new girlfriend round and staying out lots, I moved back in with my parents. He now tells me that he has sold the house for 30% more than what we bought it for and he is putting down a deposit for a new house with his new girlfriend. Am I entitled to any profits from the house even though my name wasn't on any bills, due to the length of time I was living there?

So i was interested in starting in the stock market. I am pretty young, 21, and dont really know how to go about it. I've done a little work with stocks and stuff in my econ class in high school but very minimal. i would only start with $100-$200 or something around there but i wanna get a feel of it b4 i invest anything more than that. I know the risks of losing it all and i would not put more money in then i can afford to lose and not affect any other aspect of my life other than a little disappointment. Now the part that confuses me is how to go about investing. Im guessing you cant just invest in a certain stock without going thru a company and probably paying them. What would be the best option for me to pay the least amount to a company to get going. I know i dont have much money so i'd rather spend it actually investing then paying fees to invest. Any help would be appreciated thank you

The company I work for is Union, and about ready to go on strike. I live paycheck to paycheck as it is, with a mortgage, carpayment, and all the bills, not to mention now heating oil. I don't want to go on strike, I was planning on continuing coming to work, but now it seems that anyone who walks through the picket line will NOT have a job when the strike is over! Will my mortgage company and bank understand if I explain to them that there is a strike and I will not be able to make my payment that month? How can I continue to make money, because all the other jobs in the area are all minimum wage, and I can't afford to live on that either.

I am retired military, I have my BA in psychology, my MA in higher education administration, completed an internship in the career office of a local university and was a division & department career counselor while in the Navy - I have applied for about 400 positions over the past 2 years and have had interviews but no offers. The only thing I have been told is that someone with more experience was hired - how can I get the experience? Can anyone give me some ideas, I have run out of them. Thanks.
