How does a person get fired from a job in such a way that they can receive unemployment benefits? If you do go on unemployment for a time, does it hurt your chances of landing another job?

I heard that the house prices in Maidstone, Kent are reasonably cheaper than in London. Is it feasible to live in Maidstone and commute to central London to work? Is it a good option?

I just feel a bit lost and the month that applicaations are to be recieved is when I am in Peru on my elective, so I think I need to be prety clued up on the whole thing.

Thanks.

I have been watching Coronation Street for as long as I can remember, but I still haven't figured out yet what a shilling is?
In Canada, we use the following currency:
1 dollar = 100 cents dollar coin is called a 'loonie'
2 dollar coin is called a twonie
1 quarter = 25 cents
1 dime = 10 cents
1 nickel = 5 cents
1 penny = 1 cent
we also have a 50 cent piece, but it is rare
we have 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar bills
what is a sovereign?, a shilling? do you still use ha'penny?
how is a pound broken down? are you folks moving to metric?

want to keep it there, as it has done well but heard that if the co. goes belly up there goes my proceeds from 401k-lost. I have new 401k w/new job but don't know how it will perform and don;t want to shift old to new yet... can i loose the money invested with old employer if they go out of buisness, even though it is administered by Paychex and all that money is in funds not in anyway connected to the former employer??does that make sense? New employer doesn't contribute to my 401k either..any suggestions???

I want to open up a savings account in my name along with a friend's name. I do not wish for him to know about this at this time, as it is to be used for emergencies, or in my absence. I want both our names to appear on the account with full privelges to the account as myself. Trust is not an issue here, just wondering about the likelyhood and how to go about this. In the case of something happening to me, he would automatically assume the account. We are both adults and so minor age issues do not apply here. Eventually I would like to give this account over to him, would like to keep this between myself until that time comes. Is this possible, and how do I go about this when I go to the bank? Thanks for your help here.

Hi if you worked for a company and you were only on a 10 hour contract and everything is going well because they give you more hours , and then all of a sudden they drop your hours to 10 hours a week and its hardly enough money to live off and its monthly pay also so all the money you owe comes out straight way and you have no money left to l ife off. Then you ask for more hours on your contract as you have been working there for 5 years. Then a new manager comes along and starts giving you hours that you cant work so you tell them, even though you have worked your 10 hours you are contracted to. He then starts to have a go at you for everything and says you have an attitude problem and says that if dont change your attitude you wont get the contracted hours you want and now hes saying that he will sack you if you dont do the hours. Also he gave hours from 2:00pm - 11:00pm and then back in at 9:00am the next morning, is this illegal and im sure what the manager is doing is wrong.
