Yes. Although the house prices in Maidstone are themselves quite high, they are on average cheaper than in most parts of London. Maidstone is probably more pleasant to live in, with countryside nearby and good local amenities.
There are good regular commuter trains into London which terminate at Waterloo East and Victoria from which you get the tube to anywhere else you need to go. The journey time from Maidstone to London is about 45-60mins.

Don't do it!
Its a nonsense that you can commute from Kent to London in a stress free 60mins for years and enjoy it.
I found I had to commute for 1.5 hours (should have been 40 mins) each way London to Surrey for 12 months for higher pay - a journey of only 16 miles each way, and it was a total hell.
It lowers the quality of your life and you feel trapped. There is only work imprisoned by a stressful commute. Nothing else. Your health goes downhill as you are too knackered to do anything other than eat and sleep when you get back.
Nothing compensates for that. In the end I would say I lost out financially as it took me a while to recover for the next job.

General rule of thumb, anything less than two and a half hours in total to get to work. It's the tube services, bus rides and taxis that will sponge time once you get into central London.
Getting back could mean reaching home close to midnight on some evenings, even if you left later to beat the rush hour. Upside is you could sleep in the train and work on laptops. Besides, Maidstone has a nice countryside.

I suppose you could have a flat in Maidstone and a weekend house here in France.
erdinger is right though, better to live in London. Commuting can be awful. 2 hours a day, 200 days a year = 400 hours wasted each year.

better to live in london and then work in london and you're guaranteed to get a seat on the train. Plus you dont have to live in one of tge chaviest towns in england!

Yes, I think the train takes about an hour to get into London Victoria and the fares are about £3-4K per annum.
