(a) The Allowance for Doubtful Debt account of Kara Trading Co has a balance of $5,253 as of 1 July 2000. At the end of the period, $7,896 was written off and $181,130 new credit sales were made. The company's policy is to provide for doubtful debts based on the aging of Accounts Receivable. This was calculated to be $10,086. What is the amount of bad and doubtful debt expense for the period? (Format example = 12,988; that is, include a comma but no dollar sign).

(b)Because accountants are unable to tell exactly which sales will prove uncollectable, at the end of a year they:

1. Do not record any credit sales until they have been collected 2. Estimate the uncollectables and match bad debts expense against sales 3. Deduct the actual uncollectables from sales 4. Ignore the potential bad debts 5. None of the above

Please help! thanks!

last month i gave my tennant 3 months notice as i intend to sell my house. her rent is paid by housing benefit and she tops it up by way of standing order because her benefit does not cover all the rent. I have now recieved a letter from the council saying the rent cheque now goes to the tennant and funny enough her standing order has been cancelled. I managed to talk to her about this only to be told that because im making her move out she intends to keep the benefit cheques to cover her removals and she will pay no rent to me because i have decided to sell MY house. Its driving me mad because I cant speak to the council until monday does anyone know what the outcome may be . oh and did i mention she has demanded her deposit back when she leaves.

Our company is thinking of selling Greeting Cards under the name of CardJester? However recently we noticed that a company is starting up called CardMad.com They if you visit there site use a Jester's hat. We are worried about legal issues. Do you think we should use CardJester or think up a different name? I realise that if our name is trademarked and our Business regsitered as CardJester there should not be any problems. However customers may become confused at the similar brands.
Also what is the maximum you would spend on a Greetings Card?
