Theater & Acting - December 2006

Our 4-H homeschool group will be having theater arts workshop for children. I am the director, so to speak. I need a play that would be friendly for children, that has at least fifteen rolls. If there are any hard rolls I can play them myself.
Something fun, perhaps a fairy tale. Post your ideas!

For my major I have to take an acting class. We need to have four monologues chosen for the first day.

“Two classical and two contemporary. The classical can be anything from Greek to Restoration. Contemporary can be anything from the nineteenth century to yesterday.”

Give me the names four you love, or think would be great for someone without much theatre experience. I would like to have some interesting or fun choices, but I would have no idea where to even begin.

So, if you are bored, give me some answers and remember to say why you chose the ones you did.

Thanks,

It's about a Jewish family and the father is trying to marry off his oldest daughter. The yenta (match maker) ends up pairing her up with a baker that is even older than her dad. The daughter is in love with someone else, but the father doesn't want her to marry him instead of the baker because he is poor. One of the songs in the musical is, "If I was a rich man," sung by the father.

I remember when I played a character in shakespeare it was difficult to remember all the words. I have great admiration for some fellow actors when they seem to have no problem with their script. I think there are two types of actor. The first is a natuaral the second type has to work at it. What is your experience? How do you remember dialogue? Share with me and the rest of yahoo answers some best methods of remembering your lines. Thank you.

I can't seem to choose between Cats and Pippin! "Growltiger's Last Stand" is my favorite song from Cats, and i can't seem to choose between "Corner of the Sky" and "Simple Joys" for Pippin!

Cats is one of my favorite musicals because it seem so random the first time, and afteryou watch it again and again, you start to see all of these cool little details you never saw before!

Pippin because it is just one of the most energetic musicals, with hilarious lyrics and great plot!

I don't want to choose a best answer, because, who am i to say whose favorite musical is better than some one else's? i just want to know!

Apologies if this has been asked before. I'm an amateur actress preparing for my first male role. Specifically, the title role from "Phantom of the Opera". Are there any female actors out there with tips on dressing up as this 'villianous' man? I am not a cross-dresser; i merely want to be believable.

Thanks for your help!

I've been in school plays but I really want to start a career. Does anyone know where to audition or how to find an agency? Do I audition for something or find an agency first? I am new at this so I have no idea what to do. If you know any good auditions or agencies that just won't take away your money anywhere around SF, Livermore, Concord, [etc.] California, please tell me. Thanks.

I would like to become an actress in the movies. I am 10 and will be 11 in April 2007. I have the skill and talent. In grade 2 I recieved a 'best actress' award in class. I think I can. I memorize really good. In grade 2 I memorized a script that was at least 5 paragraphes long that I hear nobody in the grade at my school could memorize that fast.

PLEASE HELP THIS TALENTED FUTURE ACTRESS!THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Okay, I have this friend who works in this fancy restaurant. One of the guys she works with--she says is always putting on a show. (he's a model and is getting into acting) For example, as he walks, he constantly does his "runway waltz walk". And she says that whenever she's tried to converse w/the guy, it's as if he's reading from a script like practicing in front of a camera. It makes others feel as if they are talking to a wall (some of the responses of other co-workers).
Out of curiosity, was wondering if this was common amoung actors? To constantly "practice" any chance they get, no matter where they are? It seems to bother them, but I think it's halarious. Anyway, the guy looks adorable (don't know him however)
