It's often said that auditors can pretty much tell all they need to know about you in the first 15-30 seconds of your audition.

Walk WITH PURPOSE to your place in the audition room. GREET your auditors. For heaven's sake, SMILE! Naturally, they need to cast someone who can act the role in question, but it goes beyond that. They need to know that the person they hire is someone that they'll be HAPPY to work with over the course of the next several weeks/months.

You'd be surprised how many wannabe actors grumble, mumble, and stumble their way through auditions...they've lost the game before they even begin performing.

Traditional audition attire is dark dress pants and a solid, light neutral colored button up shirt; the whole outfit should A) evoke the character you're going for, and B) be professional looking. What if I'm auditioning for a teenage rebel, you say? You can do that without wearing ripped jeans and a grungy t-shirt; use suspenders/ties/hair style/etc. to change your general look for the character. Never never never go to an audition "in costume". Your hair should be out of your face. Do not wear a hat. Bring dance clothes for the dance audition. Wear dress shoes or actual men's dance shoes (http://www.championdanceshoes.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=3).

If you get called back, wear what you wore for the first audition so it's easier for the director to remember you. That way when you walk on stage the director goes, "Oh yeah, him, I remember him. I liked him." and you're already off to a great start.

Have your song and monologue memorized ASAP. Practice in front of your friends and ask for feedback. Once your song is memorized, rest your voice. Drink lots of water to keep you voice hydrated, and make sure you warm up and run through your song once about an hour or so before your audition. Show up to the audition site at least a half hour early.

Be nice to everyone. You never know what the runners tell the directors in between auditionees!

And stand up straight and SMILE! Break a leg!

your body language gives off a much larger impression that you would ever think. Look it up on line - ways to sit, stand, fold your hand put your feet if your sitting all kinds of stuff and you'll be surprised how it affects you. it also helps to keep you focused and maintain eye contact. this is also good for different types of situations you'll find yourself in & you'll also find yourself critiquing others.
