What are some key philosophical terms and their meanings useful for forming arguments or engaging in debates or apologetics? For example, "ad hominem." (But not just logical fallacies alone).

What exactly does a priori mean and how is it used in forming arguments and supporting criticism (i.e. in a debate)?

More specifically, can the belief that the Bible is fully inerrant, for example, be described as a priori, and if so, why?

Is a priori negative? Positive? In what situations is it one or the other?

Can you give some examples of a priori beliefs and arguments?

Hi, I want to use the essay question "How does Volpone act as a critique of 17th century materialism?" But, I don't know what 17th century materialism is! I don't mean in terms of philosophy and Hobbes, because I don't think that really applies to Volpone. Does anyone know? I haven't been able to find a definition that doesn't have to do with consumeristic culture or philosophy, and am very confused as to what my professor is talking about. Is 17th century materialism just what materialism is today? (Meaning that it's about greed?) Please help me!! AggHHHHHHHHH PAPERSSS. Thank you.

Through no fault of thiers? It was just beyond thier control. But should you be honest with them about how much it is hurting you even if it isn't their fault? Especially if it is something that will be on going? Maybe for the rest of your lives? How honest should you be?

College
For some reason he avoids me. His friends are staying away from me. I have a tendency to stare at people whenever I am thinking about something. It's a bad habit of mine. He thinks that I like him a lot and that I am obsessed over him. I think if I just tell him that he looks A Lot like my cousin he won't be freaked out. He won't think that I am into him in anyway. I just tend to be too friendly I guess. People have different interpretations of everything. What should I say? Sometimes I feel the same way about guys I meet. I ask myself why and there is always to fix the problem.

Have you ever been proud of your foolish behavior? But later you realize it is kind of stupid to behave like that.

Why when we are one of the richest countries in the world can't we get decent health care to expectant mother's so that children don't die for no reason??? This isn't a third world country where health care is scarce and out date when it does exist?

Alright guys, tell me what you think about these implications, which I consider philosophical problems, if the Christian heaven exists. Have you ever thought about these?

According to tradition, heaven is a place where there is no longer "sin". This is one problem because it takes away a lot of our free will - our freedom to be who/what we want. Even if you're religious and don't want to sin anyway, it's still a problem because you're ability to avoid sinful practice, which you might take a little pride in right now, wouldn't be your choice. Basically, go to heaven...lose your freedom. Doesn't sound like paradise to me.

Another problem deals with "purpose". Right now on earth, we may not know the overall purpose for existence, but we at least have a temporary one. Basically, the thing that gets us (or most of us) out of bed everyday is knowing that we have the opportunity to make our life a little bit better - and it that it can get better.

It has been a religious rumors that god/God made all things, like the light and darkness. If so, before the thing called "light" and "darkness" was created, what then was the state of condition? Common sense provides that there could only be darkness in the absence of light. What do you think?

This is the strangest question but I reckon anyone here at quarter to four on a Saturday might be up to answering it. My question is...is it strange to crave a deeper meaning to your life? It's only begun occuring to me recently that it might be. I'm just back from a thirtieth birthday party where I met some people from secondary school, people I haven't met in twelve years, along with others with whom I've kept in touch. It was SO anti-climactic...I thought it would be emotional and dramatic meeting each other again, thought we would have plenty to reminisce about, plenty of reflections about what it's like turning thirty and what we've learned of life and ourselves. Nobody seemed to think there was anything significant or remarkable about it, though. There was nothing but the usual light banter. It was all so casual. One other guy admitted to me that he felt the same way-- someone I keep in touch with, and who's "on my wavelength"-- but nobody else seemed to. Am I strange?
