When he can give up belief in superstitions, mythological beings, and other forms of magical thinking.
When he no longer needs to rely on certain institutions like religion and government, which he now strongly defends despite their being the biggest source of problems in the world.
When rational thought becomes the rule rather than the exception.
When he accepts that violence is never a legitimate means to an end.
In summary, when he can finally overcome all the barriers that chain him down, when he can shed his human flaws and frailties and progress at last to the next stage in posthuman evolution.

One day he wakes up and in a flash realizes he can do anything he wants to do. So he picks up the phone and says "I quit". Then he sells all his possesions and, 1: moves into a homeless shelter where he fully realizes his capacity for love, or 2: buys a car and visits every national park in the USA. Your choice.
