For me, it's Ragdoll, by Aerosmith. Hardly thematic, but it's my drug.

Orion, by Metallica. An epic song.

Ballad of Serenity, the theme song from the TV series "Firefly." One of the overarching themes of this series was the desire to live free no matter the cost.

Until the End of the World, by U2. This was from a movie by the same name that also happens to be my all-time favorite. At the end of the movie, although it's a bittersweet ending the characters finally manage to find freedom from their personal demons in one way or another.

Finally, I sometimes like to listen to nature sounds on various Internet radio stations. It can be extremely calming.

I answered a question in the psychology section a few hours ago that asked whether music had a demonic influence on people. The asker stated he was resisting such influences. Now you are asking whether music (a song) has an uplifting influence. I'm an old man and I have noted the absence of the patriotic songs of the USA are missing from the answers including the National Anthem. Why is that? From my memory the Star Spangled Banner would have been mentioned had that question been asked in the 1940's.

My answer to the question in psychology was that modern music in the USA mainly Hard Rock, Protest tunes and Rap with negative connotations were an evil influence and that the big band swing era to me was more positive. My personal favorite is "Mocking bird Hill" the singer of which I don't remember but it goes, "The sun in the morning peeps over the hill and caresses the Flowers on my window sill. Aha ha fiddle Dee Dee Dee there's peace and good will; you're as welcome as the flowers on Mocking bird Hill, etc." I'm sure you can look it up; my kids seem to be able to find any song on the computer.

Enjoy your music, good mental health, peace and Love!

I think situation is important instead of song... if you really want to feel that your soul is free then go for a calm area far from the city i.e. any hilly area or near by any river...
And then listen the any song which u like most, becoz in this matter no one can judge ur taste of song, so baby relax... and do it...

"I Am Free" Newsboys, http://www.klove.com/lyrics/lyrics.asp?2446
The performance carries the lyrics.

Also, "Stand in the Rain," Superchick http://www.klove.com/lyrics/lyrics.asp?2515

"Lark Ascending" and "Fantasia on Greensleeves," Ralph Vaughn Williams (classical).

If you like to read, "Music and the Soul," Kurt Leland, "The Secret Power of Music," David Tame, and "The Third Music," Ann Ree Colton, are good.
