Does anyone know a book around 400 pages a junior in high school could do an easy report on without reading the whole thing? If anyone knows a book fitting that description that a sixteen year old guy would read, please let me know. It will probably be an oral report a few minutes long.

I like 'Cell', because it's genuinely scary and not just gruesome (it doesn't have to use blood and gore to freak people out, even though there's plenty of that, too), and, at times, it's actually funny in a ' sarcastic social commentary' sort of way.

I have a book that I vvrote that is like 200 pages on my computer. I have edited it to all and have had other people look for errors (I'm a first time author) My novel is a very adult scifi thriller that I have been vvorking on for over a year.
I knovv it can be published not only because its good, but because I'm only 15, what other teen has ever vvritten a book?? Not a short story, but a novel.
Anyvvay its really adult because some things vvent on in my life that i needed to vent about, so vvhile I'm a kid, for kids this book vvas not vvritten. (A suicide and four brutal murders, also a explicit, but vvell vvritten sex scene that is totally necessary) So...vvhat do i do next?

Well, to make a long story short, I need three quotations from 1984 by George Orwell. One, two, three, fifty, any number you give me will help. I specifically need at least one that relates to how in the Party, they weren't allowed to really speak their mind or have their own opinions. The other ones should just have to do with the Party and the strictness of it, and how it works and such. Also, all the quotations should have page numbers. THANK YOU SO MUCH. If I can get three, this helps so much you can't even believe.

I can read the first few lines of a story and begin my own story in that same mannner, not copying the words but having the same beat as what is written. This helps motivate me to write. For instance, I might read somehting written by any famous author and sustitute it with my own word and the beat of the writing in the same. Does anyone know what this is called? Thanks

Half a lifetime ago when I read The Great Gatsby in highschool, our English teacher told us the name of the literary technique whereby an author captures the essence of an entire character with a single attribute - for instance, Daisy with her lilting, melodic voice - the voice that was "full of money!"

I suppose it could be said that Nabokov also captured Lolita with her name in that memorable opening passage... "She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock...[but] Dolores on the dotted line..."

I think it's a wonderful device and for several years I have struggled to remember the name of it, and have searched for it online to no avail. Can one of you fine English scholars help me remember?

Thank you!

I am trying to find an agent for the promotion of a book. If anyone can help me or give me an idea on how to, I will be more than happy. I already tried the internet but Can not really find what I am looking for. Also I am just looking for someone that I can afford, so I am not looking for " Big agents". If you or someone you know can help me, I will really be very happy. Thank you so much for answering

the thing that I really liked about this book is that it was from the perspective of someone dead (the narrator). Does anyone know of something like that? (Just nothing that really preachy and religious)

I noticed, in reading the first few pages of chapter 41 of Ted Bell's Pirate, that several product brand names were mentioned, for military items, binoculars, video recorder, handgun, booze, cigars, clothing, cars, other items of personal gear.

One of the book's main character's was described as relaxing with a 10-year-old copy of [x] magazine ... the name of the magazine had no relevance to the plot of the book!

It led me to wonder. Do authors of books get a cut, for mentioning product names (such as the magazine title)? After all, the magazine might as well have been Better Homes and Gardens, or DC Comics, or National Geographic, or Scientific American, or ...whatever!

Maybe I should write a book, with all these nifty little brand-name mentions!
