I like 'Cell', because it's genuinely scary and not just gruesome (it doesn't have to use blood and gore to freak people out, even though there's plenty of that, too), and, at times, it's actually funny in a ' sarcastic social commentary' sort of way.

Desperation is my favorite book, it is the first Stephen King book I ever read. I read it when I was 12. So far it is the only one to give me nightmares and I couldn't put it down at all, from the time I woke up until I went to sleep way past my bedtime every free moment I got was spent reading it until I finished it. I dreamed about The Dark Tower series a lot while I was reading it but not nightmares, that would be my favorite series.

It.

I was 13 or 14 when I read that book. I had my own room in the basement... the laundry was also down there, so there was a drain as well, in case the washer overflowed. About a third of the way into the book there is a scene where one of the characters gets contacted to go back to fight It and he just freaks. He gets a bath all ready, gets in, and then he slits his wrists, writing the name It in blood on the bathroom tiles with his own blood. I don't know why that freaked me out so much! Maybe it was because the guy was so scared he'd rather die than face that evil again... I don't know! All I know is that I threw the book across the room (pitched it like a baseball, y'all!) and piled every piece of clothing I had on top of it. I didn't touch the book for almost three weeks after that.

I hate watching horror but I don't mind reading it. It's ok without the visuals for me. It is the only thing I've ever read (besides 30 Days of Night) that scared the crap out of me. Good ol' Stephen King!

Sorry but I couldn't get past page 50 with the cell, I found it too slow and boring. Lately my favorite of Stephens was, "Bag of Bones", I thought that was both scary and romantic, I just loved that book, I also loved, Carrie, Christine, Salem's Lot, The Shining, On Writing, and a few others, I'm falling asleep so I have to go, good night for now !!!!!!!!

I would have to say that THE STAND is the best Stephen King novel by far. The story of the collapse of civilization after a man made biological epidemic, helped by the sinister Walking Dude, Randall Flagg, and the war between Good and Evil that follows is a really chilling read.
It goes from peoples initial reaction to "Captain Trips" to the realization that humanity has been decimated, to the final "Stand" for what is right.
It is one of his longer books but is well worth getting the unabridged editions and reading that, it is superior to any of his recent books.

My favorite is Dolores Claiborne, a true psychological mystery rather than a blood-running-down-the-walls, plague, or supernatural kind of story. These were real, flawed human beings with understandable motivations. I also loved the film version with Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

I like them all, but I wasn't really impressed with "Cell." My favorite is "Stand By Me." He blended the lives of 3 boys with different family problems and a scary "road trip" to find a dead body. And he always makes me laugh at least once during the story.

i really loved reading Carrie. It was scary (i was only 12 when i read it) and I thought the idea of being able to make things happen with your mind was so interesting. When i saw the old Sissy Spacek movie after reading the book i was soooo disappointed though.
